ULOG: 020/COMEDYOPENMIC ROUND #32: NEW SYSTEMS AND UPGRADING OLD ONES...AGAIN!

in #ulog7 years ago (edited)

Wawi!! It's been a minute there. How you doing? I've been fine. Writer's block has been at all time high, plus I've also been preocuppied with school, life and my regular workouts that usually leave me drained. Yes, I've picked up the habit again, and other than the metabolism throwing tantrums in response from time to time, it's all good. We'll get there too but first things first, the schooling life!

SCHOOLED SYSTEMS:

Ever since resuming my studies at the beginning of last month, I've been intrigued by the new system my school has adopted.

The trick is simple. Basically we only study one course for 3 straight weeks.(Always starting on a Tuesday.) In between we're given the assignments, mini tests and group projects, then on the 2nd Monday, we have a CAT. On the 3rd Monday we do the exam, the next day we start a new topic, and the cycle repeats all over again.

I.e We started the semester with "Communication Skills," on the 4th of last month, and last Monday we did the final exam. The day after, we started "Principles of Management", and so far we've already had 2 assignements, 1 test, and a group presentation due today. It's quite fast paced.

Initially, I'd been wondering how my classmates and I, would react and evolve around this new system. And I gotta say, so far it's been glorious, specially on the competitive side! Due to everything being always so fresh in the mind, so many tend to have more than their 2 cents to add, sometimes leading to heated debates. There is no bad blood though, and everyone is always ready to land a helping hand when needed.

My understanding is that this system should help us understand how fast paced the work force really is, and to help us develop some of the qualities needed to survive in said work force. Also it doesn't hurt that with this system, we'll finish our modules one year before other university students.

I definitely am optimistic about where this path will takes us. Still, I'm a bit concerned that the very repetitive days could lead to some burnouts overtime. Something I've already noticed happening with myself, and others. Good thing we only have classes for 2:30 to 3 hours though, otherwise it would have been really problematic. lol Anyhow, feel freeish to let me know your thoughts on this, and until next time,

PEAC

FITTED SYSTEMS:

Like I said in the introducion, I'm back to regulary exercising, and although my gym membership ended the previous Sunday, I'm still at it. How you ask? Well I got 2 dumbbells at home, and they can sure come in handy in situations like these.

Each dumbbell at max is 19.5 lbs or kgs. I prefer saying kgs.

How I got them is actually kinda of a funny story. So at home, we also have a guest house, nothing too fancy but it gets the job done. So back in 2014 there was this Kenyan dude that had taken a room at our place. Don't remember which organization had sent him, nor what his job description was, but I do remember that he kept talking about party, booze and weights. Only 2 of those topics resonated with me at the time, but I still obliged and helped him get some used dumbbells at a good price. Unfortunately for him, not even 5 days after reaching the country he's called, and told that he has to leave ASAP, that he is being sent elsewhere. With not having enough time to find a new buyer, and not wanting to go through the hassle of getting the weights through customs, he opted to just leave them to me. A great investement if you ask me.

Sadly, for the first 2 years they were just collecting dust but thankfully I didn't sell them, as I did get a couple of generous offers. It wasn't until 2016 when I decided to live a healthier lifestyle, put the bottle to the side(Not that far.) and joined the gym.

Dumbbells Training - by Markusspiske - CCO, pixabay.com

Within the 1st few weeks I was starting to get used to the gym life, so I started really experimenting with the dumb bells. That's around when I discovered this youtube channel by Jeff Cavaliere, from which I'd try to replicate the exercises I saw there, and some others I had picked up here and there. What I love most about Jeff's workouts is that, you can do most of them at home, they focus on the core a lot, they're really intense, and they only last a couple minutes. As a renowned procrastinator I couldn't ask for better!

After a while it became instinctive, borderline asdictive. So much so that I'd try to squeeze in a few reps whenever, and wherever I could. Or at least until the December of that year. Kind of...

For you see, I've been kind of stuck in this dumb cycle for the last 2 years. For some reason, it's only when August hits that I finally join the gym. By September my bells start getting jealous, so I give them pick-me-ups too, and by November, I'm hooked once again. December is the worst of the worst though. It's always during it's last 2 weeks that I let my guard down, and my breaks end up going way beyond the festivities, and the high resolution outings. Happy New Year you lazy fuck! See you in 8 months when your a-cup gets in the way of your push-ups! - Man my bells can be so needy, and cruel... Yet so poetic!

META SYSTEMS:

Ok, so I'm back to exercising almost on a daily basis, and slowly but surely, I'll once again reach my peak and surpass it. Hurray! But one of the unintended consequences of these workouts, is that my metabolism will also be going into overdrive soon.

Quick disclaimer, regardless of whether or not I do exercise, my metabolism so fast it will make sure I stay skinnyish(with the occasional male boobies) no matter how much I cave in to the hunger. But at least when I don't workout, I can control it, but when I do...

Lord have mercy! On my wallet, the family's fridge, your mama's wallet, and your girl's kitchen. I become insatiable and I don't discriminate. I'll gladly accept your vegan food while ordering some meat and fries as side dishes! Try me!

Even by my brother's standards, who's twice my size by the way, sometimes I'll eat a ridiculous amount and then within 2 hours, I'm once again famished. I've even had it happen a few times while with friends at restaurants, or gatherings. If we stay long enough after eating, odds are I'll order another round if I can afford it. And if we end up going out, a third one will surely be in order, and I'm always generous to myself! The unitiated are usually left in disbelief, or they just give me the side eye when they see it happening.😂

CONCLUSION:

They'll eventually get used to it. And hopefully one day I too will no longer get startled, when imunchies creep up on me, caring not of my health trying to throw a fit or 2. Which makes me wonder, who shall prevail this time, the fitted, or the meta? Or will Ange find a way to balance them out? Find out next year! And until next time,...

PEACE!!

So who to nominate, who to nominate? I nominate @belemo and @holybranches, hoping it's enough of a bribe to make them send me some plenty of jollof rice. Thanks in advance.
