Can We Please Stop Sending Money to Ukraine Already?

Regardless of where you stand on the war itself, American taxpayers should not be forced to back one side against their will.

The quote above really says it all. This isn't about where you personally stand on the Russia / Ukraine war, it's about whether or the U.S. government should force its citizens to pay for it. I for one tend to think there are better things the government could spend this money on. Giving it back to the citizens would be my first choice. Short of that, at least spending it on things that actually benefit U.S. citizens would be a plus.

I am no Russian apologist. I think this war is almost 100% their fault. They are the ones that invaded Ukraine after all, not the other way around. So why on earth would I be opposed to such spending you might ask?

There are many reasons. In the best of cases, taxation is still theft. The general justification for such theft is that it is necessary for the benefit of the citizens being taxed. For the common welfare so to speak. Spending money on a war on the other side of the world that doesn't directly affect our security doesn't benefit the citizens of the U.S. Certainly not to an extent that compares to the amount being spent.

Which brings up another point. The absurdly stupid amount being spent. At last count, the U.S. has spent $113 billion on the war in Ukraine. It's not like the U.S. government has a huge surplus of money. It operates at a deficit and the debt is currently approaching $33 trillion which is about $100,000 per citizen or $259,000 per taxpayer. The U.S. government isn't just taking $113 billion from current taxpayers, they are committing people who haven't even been born yet to paying for this war. How absurd is that?

I fully support a person's right to donate money to the Ukrainian war. If that's what you want to spend it on, go for it. However, those that don't want to spend money on this war shouldn't be forced to. This doesn't seem like some crazy idea to me.

"Love this perspective! 🤔 It's essential to have a discussion about how our tax money is being spent, especially when it comes to funding wars that don't directly affect our security. 💸 The numbers are staggering, and it's great that you're bringing attention to the issue. Can we continue to share our thoughts on this topic? 🤝 What do you guys think - should taxpayers have a say in where their money is being spent?"
