RE: Breaking News - McGregor vs. Mayweather 2 : Proposed Rules Leaked

in #ufc6 years ago

You get the feeling the fans of Mayweather and McGregor care more about the result of these bouts than the fighters themselves. It seems to be very much about the payday.

I can't say I really blame them. Neither MMA or Boxing are filled with longevity in career spans so if the opportunity is there to cash in, why wouldn't you take it?

Sort:

Agreed, the first fight made so much money that a 2nd one is alsmost gntd. Floyd has his 50 - 0 record and a loss in the Octagon under MMA rules or Modified MMA rules does nothing to hurt his legacy and makes him boat loads of money.

Conor has always been about the money.

I wouldn't pay for the PPV but might watch them fight again under boxing rules but inside the Octagon this time, that could be quite fun.. no running to the ropes etc.. I dont see the point in 'modified' MMA rules, either do it or don't!

That's what this basically is - Dirty Boxing in the Octagon. It won't be much of a fight if it was pure MMA rules. Floyd would loose rather easily. Have you seen James Toney vs. Randy Couture ? It is very unlikely that Floyd Mayweather stops a double or single leg attempt from any high level mix martial artiest.

And that's not a knock on Floyd ... it's just that Boxing and MMA are two different types of combat sports. The top level fighters in MMA have trained take down's and take down defense for years. A 41 year old retire boxer just isn't going to be able to catch up to the level of wrestling and wrestling defense needed to compete against these top mma guys.

At the same time there is no way a person who doesn't dedicate his life to boxing will be on the same level in boxing as Floyd is / was .

Similarly I won't pay the PPV but have a friend who is almost guaranteed to. We'll no doubt watch it at his place over a few beers
