Fight Pass card

Reyes vs Kim (Lightweight)

My Fight Summary:
If this isn't fight of the night, we're in for one hell of a night. A wild fight. Back and forth. This fight was beautiful brutality. I will not attempt to describe it. Go and watch it.

Warning though. This fight is NOT for the faint hearted. As it's early in the night the Arena is pretty empty. There is no noise of the crowd to sanitise the beautiful brutuality of this fight. I winced on a number of occasions as these two warriors unleashed punching-hell on each others faces.

RESULT: Reyes winner by third round KO

Mutapcic vs Casey (Middleweight)

My Fight Summary:

Kevin Casey is Muhammad Ali's son-in-law, married to Ali's daughter Hana. So he must have been entering the Octagon with a lot of emotion. Round One, Mutapcic was doing well on his feet however Casey took Mutapcic to the ground and controlled the round from there. Casey's round.

Round Two had the same pattern Mutapcic doing well on the feet. Casey took him down, fell into full mount and started raining pain on Mutapcic. Mutapcic bucked out though and got Casey in the Muay Thai clinch. Mutapcic hit Casey with multiple knees to close the round. Too close to call for me. Casey may have just edged it with that mount position.

Round Three, Casey was running on empty. Mutapcic dominated on the feet. Towards the end of the round, Casey tried to take Mutapcic to the ground however was flipped and Mutapcic ended up in mount, ending the round pounding on Casey.

RESULT: Decision, majority draw

Wilson vs Da Silva (Light Heavyweight)

My Fight Summary:

A battle of two unbeaten Light Heavyweights. Wilson showed good hands with punches to the head and body, however it was Da Silva's Muay Thia clinch game and forward pressing that caught the eye most in the first round. Round One, Da Silva.

Wilson was running on empty from the beginning of the second round. He attempted to pull guard after getting outgunned on the feet. Da Silva invited him back up. Wilson did manage to take Da Silva down briefly however Da Silva got back up easily. Then almost out of nowhere Wilson hit Da Silva with a vicious combination dropping the Brazilian. Wilson started to work in top position however Da Silva swept the American and ended up in full mount. Da Silva dropped a volley of punishing blows to force the ref to stop it.

RESULT: Da Silva winner by second round TKO

Strickland vs Breese (Welterweight)

My Fight Summary:

This was a battle of two highly regarded prospects in the Welterweight division. Both are big guys for the weight class. Strickland pressed forward early however it was Breese who was the more active of the two in the first round. No real fireworks, Round One Breese.

Round Two. Strickland came out much busier and was getting the better of the earlier exchanges. Breese though started hitting him with some nice straight lefts to even out the round. Difficult round to score. The crowd were booing... a bit harsh I think. This fight is not that bad (just not as good as the earlier fights). Strickland's round, just.

Round Three. Like Round Two, this was another tough round to call. Both trading on the fight. Breese did manage to secure a brief takedown, however Strickland finished the round strong. This round (and fight) will come down to what you like. The pressing of Strickland or the crisp striking of Breese.

RESULT: Strickland winner by split decision

Prelim card

Miller vs Caceres (Featherweight)

My Fight Summary:

Carceres stepped into this one as a late replacement for BJ Penn. Caceres landed the more speculator strikes in the first round. Miller had a bit of success in the clinch and on the ground but not much. Clear first round for Careres.

More eye-catching strikes from Caceres in the second. And he proceeded to pick Miller apart on the feet. Several times Caceres dumped Miller to the ground. Another round in the book for Careres. Miller looked like he was running on autopilot and would need a miracle to pull this fight around.

Round Three Caceres continued where he left off in the last two rounds. Miller somehow managed to get Caceres to the ground and had Caceres in a deep armbar. Caceres looked close to tapping and would have seen all his good earlier work undone. Caceres forced himself out of it, reversed position before returning to his feet. Miller started to come back into it towards the end of the third and ended the fight in a dominate position. Great fight. That round was Miller's but did not look enough to take this one.

RESULT: Caceres winner by unanimous decision

Penne vs Andrade (Women's Strawweight)

My Fight Summary:

Andrade came out trying to make a statement opening with a big flurry of punches. Andrade continued to dominate with several flurries that backed Penne against the fence. Penne was hurt several times to the body and was barely saved by the bell at the end of the round.

Penne started the second looking very lively but it didn't take Andrade long to re-establish her dominance. The end was inevitable. Andrade's final flurry was just punch after punch forcing the ref to step in and stop it with Penne helpless against the fence.

RESULT: Andrade winner by second round TKO

Dariush vs Vick (Lightweight)

My Fight Summary:

Vick noticably the bigger man in this one, however both guys weren't afraid to exchange in this one. Darish suffered a couple of eye pokes early in the first. Then Dariush dropped Vick in the middle of the round. Dariush proceed to unleash vicious punish on Vick on the ground. Vick got up, however was rocked by a big left, before Dariush followed it up with an even bigger left laying Vick out cold. What a statement by Dariush!

RESULT: Dariush winner by first round KO

Ortega vs Guida (Featherweight)

My Fight Summary:

Guida caught and dropped Ortega early in the first round. From their he continued to press forward the whole round and caught Ortega with several excellent strikes. Ortega yet to get started. First round Guida.

Ortega began to come into the fight more in the second. Nothing spectular but Ortega was able to find his range. Both fighters exchanged throughout a close round. Second round Ortega, just.

Ortega started the round by picking Guida off from distance. Both fighters exchanged punches on the feet with neither being able to establish dominance. Out of nowhere Ortega began to ramp up the pressure. He then caught Guida with a monsterous knee dropping Guida and forcing referee Herb Dean to stop the fight.

RESULT: Ortega winner by third round TKO

Main card

Poirier vs Green (Lightweight)

My Fight Summary:

Wow. Both guys came out determined to trade, however it was Poirier who had the crisper hands. Green began goading Poirier and ate a left hook that sent him crashing to the ground. It looked like the fight might be over but Green somehow managed to get up to his feet. Poirier continued to pour on the pressure, hurting Green over and over. The two exchanged again and Poirier smashed Green with a huge left hand. Green was send sprawling to the floor. Poirier jumped on him forcing the ref to step in. Green was left applauding his opponent as he lay on his back. Fun while it lasted.

RESULT: Poirier winner by first round TKO

Henderson vs Lombard (Middleweight)

My Fight Summary:

This was a battle of the big punchers and Lombard's first fight at Middleweight in the UFC. Henderson threw out a couple of his patented right hand that almost caught Lombard flush early in the round. Henderson did catch Lombard with it in the middle of the round and sent Lombard staggering back. Lombard though caught Henderson coming in, dropping Henderson to the ground with Lombard winding up on top. Henderson scrambled to his feet but must have wished he hadn't, Lombard landed several hard shots flush to Henderson's head. Henderson tried to exchange but winded up on the ground again with Lombard on top of him. Both guys almost called an unofficial truce in that position until the end of the round. What a round! Round One, Lombard.

Lombard gassed in his last fight against Magny, the question was could he keep the pace in this one? Both guys started the second, in punching range threating to throw bombs. All of a sudden, Henderson threw a right head kick that landed on Lombard's neck and followed up with a right back-elbow to the temple that dropped Lombard to the ground. Lombard was out. Henderson finished with some ground and pound but it was academic. This one was over. The place went bananas! Post fight, Henderson suggested it could be the last fight of his career. If so, what a finale.

RESULT: Henderson winner by second round KO

Holloway vs Lamas (Featherweight)

My Fight Summary:

Holloway started the fight stalking Lamas. Holloway opened up after two minutes and had Lomas hurt. Lomas shot for a couple of takedowns but both were defended by Holloway. Holloway was looking good early. Holloway closed the round with a wheel kick. Round one, Holloway.

Holloway was again getting the better of the exchanges in the second round. Holloway caught and hurt Lamas and both exchanged wildly in the middle of the round. Lamas shot for the takedown, it was stuffed and Holloway almost got him in a guillotine. The pair scrampled on the ground before getting up. Lamas shot for the takedown again. Again it was stuffed. Holloway ended the round in the dominate position on Lamas' back. Round two, Holloway.

Both fighters started the third round a bit more circumspect. Lamas tried to be more aggressive but Holloway was in control of the round. With ten second to go Holloway invited Lamas to stand and bag out the remainder of the fight by pointing to the ground. Lamas obliged and the pair traded wild punches to close out the fight. Crazy! Another round for Holloway.

RESULT: Holloway winner by unanimous decision

Cruz vs Faber (Bantamweight) - CO-MAIN EVENT

My Fight Summary:

It didn't take long for Cruz to get Faber to the ground. The two scrambled several times with Cruz getting the better of them. Faber came more into it as the round went on. Close first round. Round One, Cruz. Barely.

Cruz looked tired going into the second. However he caught Faber with a massive left hand that drops Faber. Faber gets up to his feet and spends most of the round back-peddling, trying to recover. Round Two, Cruz.

More stalking from Cruz in the third, peppered with exhanges that Cruz was getting the better of. No major incidents on this five minutes. Round Three, Cruz.

The fourth was going pretty much the same as the third. Faber punching air whilst Cruz kept on the pressure. Cruz connected mid-way through the round and dropped Faber. Round Four, Cruz.

Faber needed a finish, but it's Cruz who came out unloading. Faber caught Cruz with a right hand but winded up being taken down by Cruz. Faber scrambled to his feet however Cruz continued to dominate on the feet. The highlight of the fight was provided by Faber when (as in the first) his pants began slipping down exposing his backside. Cruz saw out the remaining seconds to complete the shutout. Round Five, Cruz.

RESULT: Cruz winner by unanimous decision

Rockhold vs Bisping (Middleweight) - MAIN EVENT

My Fight Summary:

Rockhold came out looking relaxed, almost casual. Rockhold opened with kicks but Bisping looked pretty accurate with his punches early. Rockhold promised a first round finish but wasn't starting the round like he wanted one. Rockhold hurt Bisping with a leg kick to the body. Rockhold step in with a right jab from his southpaw stance. Bisping countered with a beautiful left hook to send Rockhold crashing to the ground. Rockhold sprung back up, but must have wished he stayed down as Bisping connected again with a left hook. Bisping followed up with rights and left as Rockhold lay prone against the fence. The ref, Big John McCarthy stepped in to end the fight. BISPING SHOCKS THE WORLD TO BECOME THE NEW MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION!

RESULT: Bisping winner by first round TKO

What an end to a unbelievable night!!
