The 1987-88 Champions League was the 33th version of this tournament. It was held between 16 September 1987 and 25 May 1988.

32 clubs competed in the tournament. 61 matches were played with 143 goals scored. An average of 2.34 goals per match.

Four clubs were able to qualify to the semi-finals of the tournament; PSV Eindhoven, Benfica, Real Madrid and Steaua Bucuresti.

The final game of the tournament was held in Neckarstadion, Stuttgart, in 25 May 198i between PSV Eindhoven and Benfica. The Dutch club was able to win the the final game 6-5 in penalties after the full time ended with 0-0. PSV Eindhoven clinched their first European title.

Seven players scored each one of them 4 goals in the tournament, and were named the top goalscorers of the tournament.
