Tyler Perry became a billionaire off Georgia having these insane tax credits for movies/shows, which basically gives them 30 cents on the dollar they spend. Not even deductions, just credits they can sell.

So Disney makes a movie for 100 million with Tyler Perry and they’ve done that to the tune of about 800 million for him with projects.

They can take the tax credits and sell them to a company like Coke for 90 cents on the dollar and it’s part of why something like the Marvels cost 275 million.

Tyler Perry had a studio pre tax credits in Georgia and profited huge when they happened, where he now has the largest studio in the US.

But the problem is the credits are insane, where it cost Georgia 1.3 billion last year, Atlanta residents say rent has gone up over the move ins and the tax credits only credit 1 job per $180,000.

Georgia’s house majority leader said they plan to get rid of them and even if it doesn’t happen, Perry has lost investors over the threat.

He’s using AI as an excuse to cancel the project while not angering Georgia politicians directly.
