Twitter idiots (Twidiots) of the week

in #twitter2 years ago

I don't even use Twitter for the most part but I do enjoy the fact that other people do use it. There is probably some good information in there somewhere but for the most part I feel like Twitter probably misinforms people much more frequently than not.

Here is a collection of some fun Twidiots I've found recently.

This guy could be trolling, I certainly hope so.

Occupy Democrats is a cesspool of misleading memes and half-wit information. If you want to see a den of morons and a true-life example of group-speak and probably the internet's most used echo-chamber, have look at their FB page and especially the comments. I love the hypocrisy in these two individual Tweets.

The Musk vs Twitter thing has been interesting, as has been the reaction to it by the left. I don't think the guy on the bottom there really understands what free speech means.

This guy is no idiot, but he is pointing out something that is really dumb. I don't own anything made by Apple that I am aware of and that is unlikely to change not because I don't like the company culture but because I believe their stuff is overpriced.

There are TONS of examples of stuff like this out there where it's ok if they do it to someone else, but not ok if anyone does it to them.

Business Insider is frequently a target for my pointing out of dumb news. Once a respected voice in the business world, Business Insider now is transitioning to just being "Insider" as they rarely talk about anything related to business and of course, they have an obvious leftist bias to anything that they cover. I don't know how the Musk thing became a left vs. right issue because Musk isn't necessarily on the right, he just isn't fully on the left and therefore he is an enemy.

That's it for now. I encourage people to not use Twitter, because I feel as though doing so actually makes people dumber.

Sort:

"Occupy Democrats is a cesspool of misleading memes and half-wit information. Your use of language here is absolutely awesome! The word ‘half-wit’ is so funny.

Yeah, Twitter is just arsenic for the most part. Crying shame really. Such a large platform could do so much good in the world….but it doesn’t. Getting on Twitter and exposing yourself to mis and disinformation, plus hateful comments…is the real world equivalent of asking passerbys to take a dump on your front porch. That is why I don't use it.

Anyway, great post like always @dumb-news.

I have a few friends that use Twitter for sports updates and I guess that is ok. To me it has always seemed really dumb because most of the influencers have less of an idea about what they are talking about than the average person does. They are also easily duped into sharing something that is untrue but fits into their personal belief system. This creates incentive for disinformation because there are some people out there that genuinely believe that if Patton Oswalt shares their Tweet that they are now real life pals or something.

"most of the influencers have less of an idea about what they are talking about than the average person does."

I think this often about a lot of advice that I see online. Especially with finance. I think people who consume this stuff need to give themselves more credit and embrace their own common sense.

And with social media in general, influencers sacrifice quality for quantity, so they can push out content. So, what usually comes out of people's mouths is a stream-of-consciousness and not a vetted, well thought out, idea. Hence, you're getting a lot of people's worst ideas. Even though those same people could be reasonably intelligent.

I guess it comes down to encouraging the better angels of our nature. The more intelligent angels of our nature. And Twitter has incredible shortcomings to encourage this.

for the first instance, he's not even wearing a "proper" mask. Or so was I told: it's for paint and microbes can get by

well i hope he was trolling and that would be a good indicator that he was.
