Kamikaze (short-story)

Mike was terrified. Around him he could hear multiple cries coming from his companions. He quickly runs to where his scouting party is. Around him you could see multiple silhouettes and eyes that disappeared in the darkness of the cave. All now were surrounded by those beasts that in their time had almost extinguished humanity.

Mike in his attempt to survive takes the laser weapon of his dead friend from the floor. Make multiple shots around him. Mike fails in each shot to those ferocious beasts. Without much else to do, take advantage of a blind spot and run to the exit with a couple of his teammates.

They had confronted their main enemies for the first time and now headed for their compound, a ship destroyed during the first wave of invasion that was at the end of a tunnel more than a hundred meters deep. That was his refuge. They had grown up on a hostile planet.

Mike returns with his companions. Several days had passed since their confrontation. Upon entering the fortress around it you could see the hopeful faces of the people. Everyone expected the success of the mission and admired the courage of each of the explorers. Mike and his companions direct their eyes to the floor, they regret to disappoint them.
Mike who was the leader of the mission walks to where his grandfather was. He must now give details of his failure to his grandfather who was the leader of the guard. Mike enters the great hall and takes his grandfather's hand and kneels saying:

"I apologize my dear grandfather. I have failed. During the mission we were surprised by the Glom, everything indicates that they are operating in that plant. If so, it will be impossible for us to recharge our anti-matter reactor."

His grandfather who was very worried about his grandson says:

"Please do not kneel before me. You have returned and now that is the most important thing. We all knew how brave they were when trying to leave. The world is no longer the same as before, now it is flooded with multiple beasts with physical abilities far superior to us."

Mike gets up and says:

"Grandpa more than half of my men have died. Also now the most important thing is to recharge our reactor. Otherwise, we will all die."

His grandfather tells him:

"If son, I know. Many brave young people have died. This was the world where we had to live. I'm sure we will overcome this problem like all previous ones. "

Mike who is still disappointed says:

"Grandpa, I know we have energy for a couple of weeks. From now on I will prepare the next expedition. We must get the reactor recharge at any cost. "

His grandfather walks to the door of the great hall. He opens it and says:

"If my dear grandson, everything is for the survival of this place. This time I will allow you to take away those ancient armor that are in the workshop. The few that survived is thanks to these armors. During the great war we were able to fight against them one by one, but everything got complicated when the queen arrived. They multiplied as if they were ants and continued to do so without stopping. Please go find volunteers."

Mike leaves the great room and heads to the workshop. There were only five combat armor. All had large weapons of war with a very large damage potential. He knew that they would be very successful with them.

Mike gathers again a team of five people, his goal was for everyone to put on their respective armor. After two days they decide to leave. They could not wait any longer, they were running out of energy.

All the members of the team turn on their propellers and take off as if they were jet ships. In just a couple of hours they were already close to the energy complex, but this time they had devised a stealth strategy. When they were only a few meters from the cave that shortened the road, everyone prepared with their weapons. In this mission they could not afford failure. Upon entering the cave they are immediately attacked by multiple jets of acid. The armors begin to melt.

They all attack in all directions as they move at high speed towards the plant door.

Now Mike's team is already near the big door. It only remained to knock it down and get to the anti-matter warehouse. At this point everyone agrees and they fire their big energy cannon towards the door while the Glom launch themselves at them with their sharp claws of energy. The door is destroyed at a cost of two members of the group, who die during this attack. Mike asks his other members to continue defending while he goes to the store.

When he arrives at the warehouse he removes his armor and fills it with enough containers with grams of anti-matter. Immediately undock the weapons from the armor and start using them in manual mode. While running towards the attack in the distance you can see Mike's armor taking off. He knew it would be impossible to get out of there with those containers so I programmed his armor to come to his shelter. Mike shoots in all directions. His goal was to blow up the internal reactor that had his weapon, however he had to wait for his armor to leave the plant.

Mike detonates his weapon thus generating an energy field powerful enough to destroy everything in a range of one kilometer.

The armor manages to reach the refuge.
