More Human

He blink once. The second time was easier.

He never understood the object of blinking, he felt it as something meaningless.

"If you don't blink you'll see like someone weird"

That's what Nina had said the first time he opened his eyes, worried that he wouldn't fit into the world.

"They must believe that you are a normal human being"

Normal. He wanted to refute that idea, he wasn't normal. He was a robot.

His physique could look like a normal man, even his synthetic skin felt real.
That said Nina, for her it was really complicated to affirm or deny that fact, after all robots don't know about sensations, less about feelings.

Still, he was surprised of remember Nina's first words to him. He could never forget the first words of his creator.

Blink again just to do it, to appear normal to the chaos around him.

There was fire everywhere, the place was almost completely destroyed by the explosion carried out a few minutes ago.

His operating system had broken down and even when he tried to repair himself, it was just complicated. It could have been hours and he wouldn't noticed that.

He was grateful that Nina didn't was in the laboratory that night.

Weird. Gratitude. Maybe it was more than just a little damaged.

The robots aren't supposed to feel grateful. They are not supposed to feel anything.

Another involuntary blink escaped him. He tried to focus on his physical injuries.

One of his arms was with the synthetic skin completely calcined, you could appreciate the mechanical part of this where the skin opened. His legs were useless, destroyed by the explosion.

If it were not for the metal parts and wires that came out of his body he would look like a soldier fallen in a war. A human.

Only that a soldier in that condition would be dead, being this another verification of what he is, or what he could never be.

The explosion was definitely planned to kill Nina, many people criticized what she did. They said that machines would destroy humanity.

He wished that this would could happen someday, if humans were able to do something like that to someone of their own species, to Nina, they deserved annihilation.

The Nina's intentions were always good. Create machines to prevent soldiers from dying in wars or to serve as rescuers. Her greatest work was the use of fully functional mechanical members and synthetic leather for who had been amputated.

And still somebody installed a bomb to kill her.

For a second he hated humans.

That surprised him, robots don't feel hate.

His thoughts was interrupted by Nina's entrance through the completely destroyed door.

"Aron, are you okay?!"

Nina came up with a big worry on her face.

Why?

He is a machine, he doesn't deserve concern, only be repaired to work properly again.

He needed Nina to repair him, those thoughts so human shouldn't be developing in him.

He tried to tell her, but his voice system had also been damaged.

"Quiet Aron, everything will be fine, I'll fix you and you'll be like new"

Nina tried to smile to give him peace of mind. A tranquility that never came to him.

Another blink.

His vision became pixelized at times. He watched Nina trying to pick up the debris that was burying him.

He felt hatred for the humans who tried to harm Nina.

But thinking about what he felt for Nina, he could not explain it.

It was complicated and disconcerting. It was relief that she was okay, for her safety, not caring to get hurt if she was safe.

A strange feeling that was so big and intense that it shouldn't have a name.

If it can't be expressed in words, so there is no reason to do it, just to feel it.

Nina came back to his face and he wanted to let her know how he felt. But he couldn't do it.

He noticed his brown and beautiful eyes wanting to keep her image for life.

Another blink and everything went black.

Maybe it was a kind of virus, he could hear Nina's voice calling him in the background.

That virus was eating at him, it was making him human.

Robots are not human. They are only robots.

Maybe it was his punishment for loving Nina.

Love.

A word that didn't explain even half of what he felt.

Disappear.

A too soft punishment for challenging nature.

Still, he would gladly accept it.
