There is a melody in my head

I pick up the guitar

And the pick finds my hand

In a flash

About to strike a chord

Transpose the thought to my arm

What comes out

Is the reverse

There is a brightness to your light

I put on the shades

And the shine attracts my heart

In a flash

I think we have an accord

Transfixed, I extend my arm

You turn it out

To be the reverse

A head that wouldn’t move my arm

A heart yearning for the wrong light

Now I see

I have misplaced

This cord

Wow

Nice play on words

I love the end

"I have misplaced
This cord"

Is this inspired by any real event?

The first part is more or less about my daily struggles of songwriting. I have no musical education and most of the time I can't translate the melody in my mind into chords on the guitar.

The second is something along the lines of unrequited love, more on the part of falling for someone and all the confusion it may bring. Not necessarily any particular events in my own experience on this one.
The end is about looking at oneself and being able to recognize one's own faults and to basically admit you're doing it wrong, realizing the silliness of it all.

I think I can relate to the first part. Some of my poems have a certain musicality to them; usually rap and pop. While I can write fairly good, I have issues projecting them. I still struggle with spoken words. Maybe performance isn't for me.

About unrequited love, I guess everyone has got their own share of that.

At the end, like you said, we must accept responsibility for our selves
