Amazon Prime VS Netflix VS Hotstar
I still remember the day I happened to across an article announcing the launch of Netflix in India. I was so thrilled by the news that I subscribed the very same day and was raving about Netflix to everyone I met for the next few weeks.
It's been 2 years since then. A year after the launch of Netflix we had Amazon Prime also welcome us to the world of streaming.
Hotstar is our go to in India for content from HBO and Star World.
But what do one choose?
Netflix:
Netflix has some of the coolest shows. Stranger things, House of Cards, Narcos .. The list goes on. Pricey compared to the rest but has great content
Amazon Prime:
Prime video is the most economical of the three as it comes with Prime membership on the Amazon website along with this. Love the interface and the additional trivia and cast info appearing on the side when you stream. Good content and a great value for money
Hotstar:
Hotstar is our place to be when GOT season is out. I am quite sure the monthly subscription peaks at the time of a GOT season release.
So what to choose?
Here is what I do:
I am subscribed to Prime at 499Rs for the year. That makes absolute sense for me as I do a lot of online shopping from Amazon and helps with the Prime delivery plus I have a year round streaming subscription. I subscribe to Netflix or Hotstar just for a month in between when there is a particular series that I wanna watch on them.
Subscribing to all three at the same time obviously does not make any sense as you can only be watching one show at a time. Netflix for its quality content, Prime for its great content and Prime membership and Hotstar for its specific TV shows/live cricket
