#11 TV shows: The Strain - Oh no, another Vampire TV Show, but nooooooo !!!!!

LONG TIME NO SEE…. My bad, and my most sincere apologies, but in life you must have priorities… And I have no other option that to pause my reviews for a bit of time, but here I am again, with more news, more reviews, more energy, more everything in fact. May the force be with me… taaaa taaaa taaaaa taatataaaaa taataataaaaa….

Today and today only we will talk about the number eleven of my favorite shows: The Strain.

I know, I know… another vampire TV Show… And i will gladly say: you are right… BUT… because yes there is a huge BUT… it was created by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan. Nothing big, Hogan just wrote the book and Guillermo was just part of some small movies (Ironic) like Mimic, El Elpinazo del Diablo, Hellboy, Pacific rim and so on… They are both MASTERS of horror and fantastic movies!

The Strain, just respect the classic fundamentals of horror stories… A big villain, hidden for a long time but keeping the suspense intense and a group of strangers that become fast inseparable and will fight the evil forces together.
The storyline is simple: a Boeing land in JFK airport in New York, with each and every light turned off and the doors sealed. Here comes the first hero responding to the impossible quest: the epidemiologist Ephraim Godweather, in a classic and messy psychologic disposition of a tough divorce. He is accompanied with his colleague Nora Martinez in order to investigate this mysterious plane.
On board they found 206 dead people, dead from a mysterious disease, and only 4 survivors.
Soon the corpse disappear from the morgue and people get infected by a strange worm parasite, that transform them into vampires. The two scientifics, accompanied with two more persons, a deratisator and a old jewish man who already fought this ancient threat a long time ago, will all fight together against this evil vampire threat coming on New York. The apocalypse is on march… Human mankind is threatened.

In this show, well… No surprise, we have quite a panel of good actors playing each and everyone of them at perfection their role in this apocalyptical view. One of them is Corey Stoll, who play the role of doctor Goodweather, but also David Bradley (Abraham Setrakian), Kevin Durand (Vasiliy Fet) or Mia Mastro who play Dr Martinez. On the villain side, Jonathan hyde is incredible.

Nothing much to say about this guy. I just love him, he play at perfection the change of mood, character, psychic disposition that you can get lost in his act. I really appreciate the guy. He played in many many movies, like Salt by Phillip Noyce, Midnight in Paris of Woody Allen, The Good Lie, Anesthesia, Ant man… Well a lot of movies. And the TV Show, I am not even going to get started with… CSI, Charmed, ER, Numb3rs, Law and order,n House of cards… And a lot more. Love the acting and eager to discover the next season!

David Bradley, the « Buffy » old jewish vampire hunter version

Mr Bradley, because I have to say Mr, has a great Curriculum Vitae… And you will have to admit that the role of the old fart always complaining about each and every single thing is played without false note. You will like him -, you will hate him, you will treat him of old fart, stubborn old fart even, but at the end you will appreciate him.
David Bradley has played in a ton of TV show, and TV movies. I am sur you have seen him in the Harry Potter saga, playing Argus Rusard, yeah the Pudlard concierge :)

Kevin Durand, alias russian Vasiliy Fet

This guy played in many incredible TV Shows, and not the smallest ones just small things like CSI, Without a trace, Lost, Vikings… Well my favorites… So it is like I know him very well! This actor has such a presence on scene, and this canadian guy has a huge charisma. Love this guy, he played in movies like 3:10 to Yuma… If you did not see this movie, just go for it! But he also had a role in Resident Evil, Robin Wood.

Mia Maestro, the ray of light in the zombie land…

I just had to put her name so that I can see her face in my article. Mia is coming from Argentina, and is a very talented actress, but not only… She is a classic singer and has her double hat, double career. Her main role was in Alias before this TV Show, but she played in many other like Hannibal, Scandal, or in Movies, like Evita, Frida (yeah she is a good friend of Salma Hayek), some Twilights too. Hope to see her much much more :)

Jonathan Hyde, The bad guy, well bad billionaire man

His character has just one purpose, obtain eternal life, and control the world, a little bit like each and every single bad guy in movies lol. Well we don’t have to present much more this actor who played in many movies like Titanic (He was the president of the White Star Line company), or the King Lear, Anaconda, Jumanji.
He is just so classy, one of the actor born for this role, in his movement, way of speaking, acting in general. You cannot miss him in the series, he is the one you will hate so much and want him to die… EASY :)

Well in general, this is a vampire TV Show. OK. But not like any other TV Show you will encounter on the short waves. It is much axed on a darker story, not like any other vampire/teen/romantic story you can find today. No, this one is dark, bloody, dirty and stressful. If you like clean and shiny story, pass your way, that is better for your heart.
