If You're New To Steem, Then You May Want To Watch This Video: 'Resource Credits' Explained For Beginners

The pursuit of knowledge is never-ending. The day you stop seeking knowledge, is the day you stop growing. - Brandon Travis Ciaccio

After spending a couple of hours on Steem, you may notice that knowledge is of incomparable value here.

Steem is different from any other network you've been participating in before, and that is even on purpose.

The Social Blockchain Steem aims to be different and better than other networks in many ways. If you're disposed to find out what its uniqueness is about, then this may be profitable for you in the long run - both from a financial and a social perspective.

After a recent hardfork (update of the blockchain) the rules of the game have changed slightly, which is why I decided to explain a couple of these innovations in a video.

Get your coffee ready for these 4 minutes of video tutorial! *

It's on you.

Before watching my today's video there is one more thing you may want to bear in mind.

This is a decentralized network, were both opportunities and duties are shared among its participants.

Yes, this is a network where you can get financially rewarded for your social interaction. However, the re in re-wards has a meaning.

Money always flows in the direction of value.

So being rewarded on Steem requires a certain value contribution to the network.

The common belief that Steem users have right to earn a certain amount of Steem tokens, is definitely wrong.

Steem works on a give-and-take basis.

One of the great benefits of this ecosystem is that the sweat equity principle applies, which means that all forms of capital are equally valuable.

Those who contribute their scarce time and attention toward producing and curating content for others are just as valuable as those who contribute their scarce cash. - Steem Whitepaper

Still: there's an invest required.

So whenever you are in doubt whether you're fairly rewarded for your doings on Steem or not, think about how much you've effectively invested first.

Here's my today's tutorial video for you: 'Resource Credits' explained for regular people

My only intention was to make this information more visible for new users, since it aims to inform them about the new rules on Steem. If there is another possibility to spread the word, I'd be happy if you could let me know :-)

This is awesome, thanks for creating this video

Pretty loving article! Thanks for taking it slowly and friendly, I’m totally in love with HF20 and the introduction of RESOURCE CREDITS because it purely a window for accountability in steem/it blockchain activities, take for instance; I’ve commented three times today as at the time of this comment, and I can comfortably tell the impact on my resource credits. Now I can really have a full control and become more responsible on the manner by which I transact on steem/it blockchain activities.

Thanks for the video.

I like your way of thinking!! Thanks for this comment which is my today's silver lining :-)

Steem on & happy weekend

The pleasure is mine. And I never forget your encouragement through your up vote to my comment, I checked and noticed that you gave me a 100% up vote, that’s a hundred percent smiles on my face Marly!. Keep loving, keep the good heart @surfermarly.

Hehe I just love 100% smiles so much :-)))

Have a wonderful weekend

Thanks Marly! This was a pretty good intro into the RC addition. Will link people who are curious to your video. Well done :)

Very cool! That was my actual purpose when shooting the video: inform as much people as we can :-) Thanks for spreading the word!!

Perfect. Thanks for doing this.

I dropped by a couple of intro posts to quickly explain this stuff to a couple of noobs before they get carried away. I'm sitting there typing away, explaining, didn't want to just copy/paste and be a robot. I think I'll just send them this link.

Tried to teach one to budget. They wrote the post, then upvoted each comment and said thanks to everyone; basically wasting half of their RC in one post. I suggested maybe write at the bottom of the post "Due to my limited RC, I'll say thank you now." I guess that kills a lot of birds with one stone, right? LOL!

I wrote a post earlier today explaining how I feel about all this. I'm not as frustrated as the rest of pack. I see potential here but people really need to change their habits, have a look at the intro posts, find what they like, and help get some of these noobs out of a jam with votes. One solid intro post could mean these people can already double their RC, maybe, if they power it up.

Thanks a lot for your comment and inspiration! I started to comment on introduction posts as well but then thought it could be easier to do one video for all of them, so that was basically my motivation. In fact the idea was to share the link with as much people as possible :-)

I'm not frustrated either and have few understanding for people with a 70+ rep who're driving all people crazy with their Steem is going to die-messages. That won't help anybody, including themselves.

The biggest potential I see is that people will be accountable for their own doings and focus on what really matters. Supposedly a large majority will be more focussed and not waste any mana for unnecessary statements. That might even lead to a higher quality of content. We'll see :-)

Again, thanks for stopping by and for your efforts on educating the new members in the community! I'll join you there :-)

Nice short and clear explaination of how that works. That should help some people... =)

Thank you! I hope some of them will find it.

Nice nickname btw :-)

Hello @surfermarly.

Where can I reach you for a private chat. I will like to talk to you about your Steem Project. The one you listed on Fundition.

You can reach me on Twitter via @that_ogochukwu

What i really not understand is what is the issue with , whenever i set 100% vote i lost many % from my voting power and not ~2% per 100% vote like it was

Im still very iffy on this it seems like people are being even more reserved with their voting now such as not doing it on comments etc. To me this is going to lead to a select few power houses and a select few people you comment/ vote on instead of spreading it out.

Well there are many ways to look at it. I second the perspective @maxdevalue just presented (see comment in this thread above) and believe that the new system is a chance to improve quality on the Steem blockchain.

But only time will tell... Let's be patient :-)
