The one thing Steemit still needs:
A proper text editor for people who aren't developers/ don't regularly work with Markup files.
Sure they could learn. But the average user won't want to.
So as long as you 'need to know stuff' to be a writer on Steemit, the platform won't become mainstream.

Do you think the average Facebook users is going to like it if they need to remember all those symbols.

I'm used to it after editing lots of files on Github.

But I understand that lot's of people might have problems with it.
