Useless but Fun Linux Terminal Tips: Trains!
Do you like trains, like Sheldon Cooper does? My father was working at a train station and I always had (and still have) a crazy love for trains!
How about you have a train in your terminal?
If you are on Debian/Ubuntu and other apt-get based distros (needs root privileges):
apt-get install sl
If you are on Red Hat/Fedora and other YUM based distros (needs root privileges):
yum -y install sl
After installation, run sl
or LS
(capital-letters LS
, not small-letters ls
).
this is what you will get on your screen:
The train moves on your screen!
Enjoy another useless tip!
curl can do a lot of neat tricks. You can get your external IP with:
curl ipinfo.io/ip
and you can look up ip information with:
curl ipinfo.io/
+ip-addressHeh, nice. I found this one a while ago:
curl wttr.in
It returns the weather for your location in a nice table
Nice one! I'll use it :)
