Tungnath Temple - Highest Temple of Lord Shiva
Tungnath Temple is also known as Panchkedar. This temple is located at a place called Chopta in Rudraprayag district of Garhwal in the state of Uttarakhand. Tungnath Temple is a temple situated in a mountain above Chopta, which is built at a height of 3,640 meters above sea level. It is the tallest temple in Panchkedar and is also well known and known as “The Highest Temple of Lord Shiva.”
It is said that during the Mahabharata, when the Pandavas had massacred many people, desiring to win in the Kurukshetra war, Lord Shiva became angry with the five Pandavas and refused to even meet them. The five Pandavas had come to this mountain to find and please them and this temple was built by them.
