Trust Yourself
“You will find that you don’t need to trust others as much as you need to trust yourself to make the right choices.”
― Miguel Ruiz, The Four Agreements
General theme of humanity in these times. Theme of trust and betrayal. It scales from personal relationships all the way to the local star cluster and everything in between. There's so much fear and anger, blame and righteousness going around.
So how do we learn to trust ourselves to make the right choices? By getting to know ourselves. Our particular patterns, our autocorrect, if you will. Our inclinations to not go beyond our filters of belief systems. What have I been lying to myself about? What are my blindspots? Why am I not willing to even look for, let alone hear another perspective? These are deeply engraved patterns.
If we are led by these unconscious patterns there is no way we can trust ourselves or anyone else for that matter. Our world is based on a battle of nightmarish hallucinations. Slowly over time, by weeding out these projections (seeing them for what they are repeatedly), we can peel away enough filters to glimpse some semblance of clarity and healthy self confidence.
At that point, excited about the new discovery, we must do our best to resist the urge to tell others what to think, but we don't know that we only had a glimpse of an idea. So the projecting continues, more subtly. And then once again, slowly over time, we start seeing them as well for what they are.
By doing this kind of honest inquiry we can reach a point where we can trust ourselves enough to make the right choices instead of broadcasting insecurities and always expecting to be duped somehow, by someone, while never taking responsibility for our self deceit. We must learn what our fears are and face them head on for this to work, acknowledge and embrace them. Because we will be faced by them one way or the other. Inwardly or outwardly through catalysts that will keep coming, stronger and bigger.
Since not one person has had same exact experiences and conclusions like the other, this process doesn't work the same for everyone. Some need more time to slowly unravel, some burn through it in intense cycles. But as long as we are willing to ask questions within, we will move forward and gain new perspectives and get lost in our own fractal of ironies less and less. Eventually, it won't matter anymore what anyone else is doing because we will be able to fully accept the responsibility of our own choices rather than expecting others to be responsible for us.
Such... is the nature of well grounded disclosure.
