RE: Trusting Certifications, Keeping People Honest

in #trust6 years ago

My problem with trusting the authority of the government agencies (at least here in the US) who put their so-called stamp of approval or certification on food is not always what it's cracked up to be.

They have the USDA stamp of approval on eggs... spinach... and what happens? Food recalls. Hepatitis break-outs.

So I have issues with trusting others to grow my food.

When my son was a teenager and at home, he raise chickens. We had our own eggs. We tested them under the light. We had freezer chickens for the sou pot. We raised those chickens from pullets (and later from the incubator) and no one ever got sick from OUR chickens or eggs. And we weren't certified, we had no rubber stamp to go on the cardboard cartons of eggs.

How easy is it to just take a non-organically grown produce and stick an organic label on it?

I wouldn't be shocked or surprised this is happening. Organic is generally more to buy, so why not stick that head of leaf lettuce under the organic sign and raise the price slightly.
