The trust of Hezekiah: They spoke about the God of Jerusalem as they did about the gods of the other peoples of the world. 2 Chronicles 32:19

The Second Book of Chronicles tells how the trust of King Hezekiah in the God of Israel was tested. The Assyrians, who were considered a very warlike people in the Middle East, had carried out a successful military campaign by destroying the Kingdom of Israel and deporting all its inhabitants out of the country. There was only one step left to invade the prosperous Kingdom of Egypt, the Kingdom of Judah, and Sennacherib the tyrant of the Assyrian empire set his eyes on that small Kingdom.
And so it was that the King of Judah, King Hezekiah, without the help of Egypt, had to face the King of Assyria alone. Despite his military inferiority Hezekiah had some advantages, he had governed his people with righteousness and accomplished what was pleasing to God and that is why he had a lot of support as the Bible tells us: "This is what Hezekiah did throughout Judah, doing what was good and right and faithful before the LORD his God. In everything that he undertook in the service of God's temple and in obedience to the law and the commands, he sought his God and worked wholeheartedly" 2 Chronicles 31:20-21.
Once Sennacherib invaded the country, and without finding a battle in the open field, he began to besiege Jerusalem. And so Hezekiah, who had built his government with good foundations, put his trust in his people and God.
The Bible relates that Sennacherib sent some of his men in front of the city wall to shout blasphemies against God to intimidate the city's inhabitants: "They spoke about the God of Jerusalem as they did about the gods of the other peoples of the world" 2 Chronicles 32:19.
Finally, the scriptures relate that the trust and fear of God of Hezekiah and his people were rewarded, and God defeated Sennacherib by sending him a great plague that massacred his troops. Once the tyrant was defeated, he was murdered by his sons sometime later when he returned to his kingdom.
With Hezekiah a teaching was fulfilled: "Happy is everyone who fears the LORD, who walks in his ways" Psalm 128:1
