I'm not a huge fan of democracy.

But if I was, and preserving it was the most important consideration, I would vote for Trump on general principle.

It's one thing to say "I hate Trump". I'm with them on that bit. But they're fighting against democracy in order to get him. Trump never seemed to have any principles and they're showcasing that they don't either.

What I support is due process prior to punishment.

He's not been convicted of aiding and abetting an insurrection. The House said he deserved to be looked at for such a thing, and the Senate acquitted him. There's not just disagreement about whether or not Trump actually "aided and supported" an insurrection, to what degree or by what means... There's huge disagreement on whether or not an "insurrection" actually took place.

Is there an argument that one did take place, and that Trump's words themselves, I don't know... Incited such a thing? Sure, I guess. They should make that argument in the courts before punishing him and those who wish to vote for him and democratic norms and basic fairness and all that.

The state removing a major party candidate from the ballot is a punishment to the candidate, all his potential voters, and the very concept of democracy. It should require basic due process.

I don't believe that, beyond a reasonable doubt, that trump knowingly aided and abetted an insurrection. In fact, I don't believe that, beyond a reasonable doubt, an insurrection was actually attempted in any kind of meaningful or organized way.

I believe that what happened on Jan 6 was that, of a very large and mostly peaceful crowd, some small percentage got caught up in the moment and acted illegally, inappropriately, and shamefully. Those types of people were motivated by thinking the election was stolen and the belief that democracy was rigged against them. Trump's alleged crime was saying so.

Now, those same people have even more reason to believe that exact same thing. If Trump's crime was to tell his followers the election was rigged, and that was enough to incite violence, then surely literally rigging the election is the same crime and risks the same result.
