Why I Will Never Invest in Neo or Tron

The Implicit Vulnerability of Chinese Cryptos

Neo and Tron, while promising ideas, are ultimately highly vulnerable. Businesses that operate in China operate at the pleasure of the Chinese government. At any time, the Chinese government could shut these projects down or take them over. If they move their headquarters to South Korea or Singapore, I will take another look at them. Until and unless that happens, I consider the risk to exceed the potential reward.

Other, Better Projects

Neo and Tron are both Crypto platforms. There are other, better crypto platforms out there. Ethereum and Ethereum Classic are both much more established and secure, and Ethereum has the resources and will to continue to develop its blockchain and make it more competitive. I think that Ethereum will close the gap on Tron and Neo, in terms of development, because they have the means and the will to do so. They are already getting into sharding and PoS. This, in turn, will lead to much more massive throughput. And don't forget that Ethereum already has a huge headstart in terms of Dapps.

Furthermore, there are other up and comers that are more promising than Tron and Neo - even discounting that they are headquartered in China. Cardano is a particularly interesting one. I don't think Cardano (or any crypto platform) will turn out to be the Ethereum killer, because I think Ethereum is going to be able to hire the developers it needs to stay competitive. However, I think Ethereum will have to share the space, and Cardano will carve out a nice big chunk of that space.
