Celebrating the 35 year anniversary of TRON on classic Laserdisc

Today is the 35 year anniversary of the original TRON. I decided to hang out with a friend today and he showed me how he was going to celebrate watching TRON on this special day with his LaserDisc.

These things are huge! They don't have a title screen like DVD's and you have to flip the disc to finish watching the movie. TRON comes with three discs so you have to play all 6 sides to watch it.

It amazes me how much we have advanced with digital media these days to the point where even DVD's and CD's are becoming obsolete. Anyway, just wanted to share this cool piece of vintage technology

Here's a piece of trivia my friend gave me. TRON was so revolutionary in special effects and using computers that TRON was not allowed to win a special effects oscar. They felt using computers was cheating even though each frame in the digital TRON world had four overlays, one that was hand painted to give the glowing effects of the suits. Funny how we have changed when we gave every award to the Matrix for special effects decades later
