The operation name was Operation Barbarossa and it happened during World War II, where the Axis decided to invade The Soviet Union . The goal was to seize the oil reserves of the Caucasus and the agricultural resources of Soviet territories.
The operation failed, the Germans were unprepared and did not take into account the harsh environment that they were about to face, the Soviet winter counteroffensive was successful and the German troops had no choice but to retreat.
