Kamameshi - Japanese Tradition In Nara
Hello everyone,
I'm in Nara for this post. I’d like to recommend the best restaurant in Nara. It is a restaurant that serves kamameshi, which is rice cooked in an iron pot. The restaurant is called Kamameshi Shizuka and is on the way from Kintetsu Nara Station to Todaiji Temple.
Kamameshi Shizuka Kouen Ten
Every time I pass this restaurant on the way to Todaiji Temple, I always see many customers standing in line. This time I saw the line wasn't long so I tried it. I waited about 1 hour, yes a little long. If you don't have any patience please ignore this restaurant.
Inside of the restaurant there are about 20 seats at tables and the counter. And you can't reserve by phone. Walk-in only.
There are a variety of dishes, both standard and seasonal. This season oyster kamameshi is on the menu.
These are the menus.
I ordered crab kamameshi which consisted of crab cooked with burdocks, carrots, bamboo shoots, shiitake mushrooms, and peas in the iron pot and served with pickles and miso soup. It looked small but unexpectedly made me full. This is a Japanese traditional food that I really recommend.
