Toka Ebisu Festival Osaka(十日戎)
Hello everyone,
I’d like to show you a festival I’ve been near my home. Every year at Imamiya Ebisu Shrine, Osaka's Toka Ebisu Festival is an event held to pray to Ebisu’s god of good fortune. Visitors are given sacred bamboo branches and can buy lucky symbols to decorate the bamboo.
The festival is 3 nights and 3 days, January 9th to 11th every year and attracts more than 1 million participants. It is well known amongst business people in Osaka. They come to pray for good fortune in their business.
There are many lucky symbol sold at the festival, such as small silver & gold bags, rakes, shovels made of bamboo, baskets, words of good for decorated with bamboo branches.
This is my sacred bamboo branches.
Around the shrine are a lot of shops where you can enjoy the local foods and sweets at a reasonable price.
Before I end the post I’d like to tell you how to pray at a Japanese shrine.
- Throw a coin into the donation box. Japanese people believe that 5 yen means good luck.
- Bow twice deeply.
- Clap twice.
- Spend a moment in prayer.
- Bow once again.
Hope you enjoy my post and see you in the next one.
