Yugawara Onsen Festival
This is a festival which was held this year on the 25th May in Yugawara.
I first wet there ten years ago, and recently its become a lot more crazy, may more people from abroad. I suppose its got on to social media, like this post and more people from around the world come now. Still, its quite a local festival nevertheless. Two portable shrines are carried down from the hot springs high up in Yugawara town down to Izumi park.
There are hundreds of large buckets lining the route, filled with hot spring water. When the portable shrines arrive, everyone throws the water over them, although recently its been a bit of a free for all. The festival ends in the park around a huge fire which is very welcome because by that point, everyone is soaking wet.
This is a really fun and exciting festival in Kanagawa, I hope you can get a chance to experience it sometime.
