The Maroda Shrine within Itsukushima Shrine

When we go inside the Itsukushima Shrine, there is a place called Haraiden or also called The Maroda Shrine and is the first Shrine you see as you enter on the eastern side. According to our travel notes, it is place for visitors to “purify their mind and body” before going for prayers. You can see some lanterns outside and also some bunting type of thing across the ceiling. There are no doors therefore it is very open unlike some of the shrines we have been to. People will offer their prayer and then drop some coins into the box. Behind is it the ocean so it also symbolise the purifying.
Close by there is a display section for offerings and we see them around the shrine. Although it is in Itsukushima Shrine but it is not part of the main shrine. It is connected and you can continue on.
