Stranger Things: The power of nostalgia

Nostalgia is a sentimental attachment to the past, an it is all around our shows; we saw its effects last year when Pokemon-Go came out and was a hit, and now we see it on the success of Stranger Things. This series appeals to its public by striking it with two levels of nostalgia; by setting the show on the the 80's, the golden age of Sci-fi, when E.T. and the Return of the Jedi came out, and the nostalgia of just being a child again. Any millenial with a Netflix subscription will know what I am talking about. The emotion we feel when Dustin talks about Green Lantern, Lucas pulls out his slingshot, or Mike receives an Atari for christmas, is both a sentimental attachment to our childhood and a nod to 80's references. In conclusion, no matter what people say about the second season, we will keep buying that Millenium Falcon replica just because Dustin has one.

I hope you like my drawing, cheers
