Overall I loved the game. A lot of people are showing hate to this game simply because they feel way too attached to characters from the first game. Especially considering that the game is set in a post apocalyptic world where people die at any moment in the most unexpected ways. It’s because of these angering yet realistic and haunting moments that make this game beautiful. People who couldn’t see this are stuck in fairy tales where main characters dance around a lilyfield. I thought naughty dog captured this dark, realistic post apocalyptic setting brilliantly. The new characters introduce a new dynamic to the game which tells stories of how morals have been changed amongst the new generation depicted by the “scars” (especially lev as we hear him question human behaviours which we deem normal which he either doesn’t believe, know or understand). Even I was slightly discouraged by the change in characters after playing Ellie, but the character development was done well enough that I was eventually absorbed by abbys story and forgot the emotions that Ellie’s side presented throughout her play through.

Side note (SPOILER) - fighting tommy and seeing how strong of a character he was only makes me love them more and shows us a new perspective which makes us fear tommy (and Joel if he weren’t killed) If they were ever the enemy.
The ending was underwhelming however very insightful. The message naughty dog sends throughout the whole story is strong and I felt it’s taught us the consequences of each characters actions. Although it was angering, I feel it was realistic and strong in what they wanted to portray and this made up for it. For me I felt that the message was “Revenge is a path which causes nothing but pain”. Overall great writing, direction, acting, etc from naughty dog.

Gameplay-wise, it met my expectations which isn’t something I take lightly. The whole game felt like I was playing through a movie. Action sequences and combats developed beautifully. The attention to detail is very apparent and the new dynamics such as the jumping and crawling have expanded on the already existing approaches that players can take upon encountering enemies and solving puzzles. I did run into a small glitch or bug here and there, but it didn’t affect the Immersive storytelling. The game setting is beautiful as always. You find yourself just wandering and looking at the beauty that naughty dog has made. The game also feels ALOT more open. You have choices to search buildings filled with enemies in order to find supplies or to carry on with a linear approach.
