why is trending such a dumpsterfire and will i ever get there?

I continue to, for some god only knows reason, click on the trending tab. Why are all these bot voted posts in trending and not in promoted?It is quite clear they are not in fact trending at all but rather bought and paid for trash. It is embarasing to try to introduce new people to steemit when the first thing they see is our trending page.
