There's a lot of buzz around ethereum right now, but there's a lot more discussion to be done before the market gets a real sense for how the technology works and how it compares to bitcoin. At this stage, it's too early for people to start jumping to conclusions.

One big reason for this is that there are lots of good technical reasons for ethereum as opposed to bitcoin. In fact, the best technical reason for ethereum appears to be to reduce the risk of a "brute force" attack. The attacks we've seen on bitcoin have been a brute force attack on the transaction protocol. A bad miner or an overzealous miner could essentially wipe out all the value on the blockchain in seconds, if they had enough computing power. One way to address the risk of a bad actor is to introduce a new type of transaction (say, a coinjoin) which reduces the transaction length and allows multiple nodes to verify a single transaction.
