TreeTuesday or a dead tree is still a renaissance

This is my contibution to #TreeTuesday by @old-guy-photos. Enjoy!

It’s as simple as that: In a national park the nature should be left by itself, not touched by humans. Sprouting, growing, living, fructifying year after year for decades, maybe centuries, finally dying. When a tree falls it won’t get removed to „clean“ the wood. No, it will be left where it fell and the diversity of species comes back by itself. Moss and wood fungi cover the old trunk, insects settle in it’s lumber – feeding and breeding and even young trees start to grow on them.

It is not always this simple, especially not in such a young national park like the Nationalpark Sächsische Schweiz (Saxon Switzerland in the southeast of Germany). It is located in an old traditional area of settlement. After centuries of agricultural and forestry use it needs some assistance to get its wilderness back.

The national park Saxon Switzerland is the only national park in the german federal state Saxony. It was founded October,1st in 1990 and covers an area of 93,5 square kilometer. It is one of the greatest attractions near the saxon capital Dresden.

Every time I go back to my hometown to see my parents we safe a date for a hiking trip to this beautiful spot on the earth. It is just around the corner from where my parents live – half an hour car ride and we are within it’s green woods and amazing bizarre rocks. It is always worth it no matter what time of the year or how the weather is. It is beautiful and breathtaking anytime.

There are different types of areas where men still take a hand on the nature of the national park for example in the near of streets or human settlements. But in the „rest area“ nature is left by its own completely. The only role for the human being is the one as an observer. Already 60 percent of the whole area of the national park Saxon Switzerland is already „rest area“. The goal is to increase this number to 75 percent.

Some of my photos show these kind of trees which give life to so many other species while dying themselves or after dying. There is a special kind of beauty in this trees.

Have a nice rest of this tuesday and a wonderful week!
