GIRDLING TREE ROOTS #Treetuesday
I have a Girdling tree root on my American Beech tree. If left in place can strangle the side of the tree and prevent sap flow up to feed the leaves. This can kill branches and eventually kill the tree.
I planted this tree back when I moved into this house. Dug up a couple of saplings in the nearby woods and planted them in my front yard. I put a lot of dead leaves in the holes when planted and they have grown fast and strong.
There is a proper way of removing a Girdling Root. Watch this video if you are in need of removing one someday. 🎄 I'll be getting after my Girdling root very soon.

Wow I didn't know a girdling root is such a big problem for trees @manorvillemike, probably like most people I thought it was a natural occurrence.
Can definitely do harm.

@old-guy-photos started it. Trees use to be my hobby. Use to collect seed. Now I have 40 year old seed bearing trees from them :-)

Your welcome old-guy .. I removed the root yesterday. The root you see was already dead. Snapped right off. The one to the left of it was potentially harmful. I'll a post on it's removal.
