If they're anything like the ficus we have in Key West, Florida, they also have very shallow root systems and blow over very easily in hurricanes. Not wise to have them close to a home period. Trust me
Sure to be similar, general rule is not to plant near a house, one never knows the rooting system.

Such a tree reminds me that nature is powerful
Big trees such as this always take me back to Treebeard and the Ents in 'Lord of the Rings' a good read @fates
Movies were not bad, just never capture imagination quite the same way that a book is able to.
I loved the Ents! and fully agree with you there!
something about massive trees make them majestic and the fact that they have been around so long standing firm when all the world around them has changed, makes them otherworldly .
That's a great description of the tree, I often walk by trees where I am and I'm not sure what species they are...
Fruit trees though are especially nice, great for birds!

It is interesting that trees are being named throughout our province, assisting in gaining new knowledge when walking in parks or nature reserves, by photographing makes it available to go home and do some research @motordrive
That's a weird looking tree, the name in Afrikaans is almost similar to the Dutch name. Well, most of the language is kinda similar...
Afrikaan's is known as 'kitchen Dutch', after Dutch arrived in the Cape of Good Hope the language formed so many words and names will look and sound similar to original Dutch.
Amazing pics!
