Tree Tuesday - The Jackfruit Tree in Thailand !!

in #treetuesday6 years ago (edited)

The Jackfruit Tree , in Thai language it is called " ขนุน "
or " Kha-Noon " This is got to be one of the most amazing fruits i have ever seen the size, texture and taste of this huge fruit is absolutely mind blowing. It was at my girlfriends farm when i actually saw this fruit for the first time hanging of the tree i have seen the Jackfruit in the markets as a whole fruit or cut up but had never seen it actually growing on a tree out of the tree trunk it was odd but a experience to see it.

It is quite a beautiful flowering fruit when it starts of and a cute fruit to look at and then this jackfruit tree turns into the largest tree born fruit tree in the world. One of these fruits can reach a length of nearly a meter and weigh close to 40 kilograms.

The outer skin of this fruit i noticed is very thick and covered with stubby pyramidal bumps. Sometimes this Jackfruit is mistaken as a Durain but actually the Durain fruit has sharper pyramidal bumps and is more of a dull green color almost grey in color.

The skin is light green in color and changes to a yellow color letting you know the fruit is ripe and ready to eat , time to pluck it of the tree.

The outer skin of this Jackfruit acts like a large sack which holds as many as 500 seeds which are quite big black seeds but it's the juicy membrane that surrounds the seed that is the edible part. I had never really eaten this fruit back home but here in Thailand i have adapted quite a taste for this fruit. It has a completely unique taste something like the flavor of a pineapple and banana mix together sweet and crunchy goes well with fruit salads also.

When in season you will find many vendors in Thailand with their fruit carts selling Jackfruit pieces already cleaned up minus the huge black seed normally you can buy about half dozen pieces which will cost you around 35 U.S. cents.

Hello there @hangin, do you mean Durian instead of Durain, the king of fruits? .. this is funny for me.. because never saw someone so happy when he found the jackfruit tree... well, we call it "Nangka" in Indonesia and "Panah"in Achenese Language.

I love to eat the Kha-Noon fresh when its ripe, but the young jackfruit also uses for some sweet delicious food call Gudeg and the leaves is goat's favourite's feeder.

even we can make special cake with its seeds and the surround membranes also could be a good fried chips too... for those with upset stomach, you are not suggested to eat more than enough :D Thanks for sharing

I have corrected it now should make it easier now to know what i meant...

" Sometimes this Jackfruit is mistaken as a Durain but actually the Durain fruit has sharper pyramidal bumps and is more of a dull green color almost grey in color."

And you are right the Jackfruit has many many more uses in the food department and medical department.

But you do know that Jackfruit and Durain are two completely different fruits right.

Not Durain but Durian 😂😂😂 off course I know that king of fruits better because I like it more than any fruits in the world. Though sometimes I found it funny when some hotels prohibited the guests to take in any durian and eat it in the room😊 you know.. not many non-asia people like Durian.

The Jackfruit! Yaayy.. I have a tree at my parent's house and many in my neighbourhood.

You can't blame the hotels for prohibiting guests to take it to there rooms even though it is a yummy fruit it does have a very distinctive smell that many people can not handle unfirtunately.

👍 even from 8 siblings, 4 of them don't like its smell and the fruits neither... anyway, if you can enjoy the whole day at the Durian Festival, why would bothering others by taking it to hotel😉

Talking about the jackfruit tree.. though it has a hard stem, it's also vulnarable because there's a special moth which love to live inside the tree stem.

Hey! To prove that this is real jackfruit tree! You have to send me one of the big fruits! Hahaha!

Haha....you know they are real and if you want one you have to come and have a beer with me then i will give you one to take home :)

That is enormous!

They certainly are and lots of fruit in them to be eaten...yummy :)

Congratulations! Your post was selected by the @dropahead Curation Team (dCT)

It might be dangerous to be standing under a Jackfruit tree when the fruit is too ripe... man 40kg hanging on a tree... luckily it seems to be 40kg of deliciousness xD.

Best regards.
