Maintenance of Inga Edulis Reforestation: Video Log #2
I have been trying to write an article about this for nearly two weeks, when finally I stopped and asked myself, ‘Self, what is the hold up here?’
When I analyzed the situation, I realized that I was trying to write two or maybe even three articles all in one. So I have broken them apart in chunks, and today I have the first one for you! Welcome to our second video log!
Trees taller than me
Since this is not the 'my plants diary' post about Ice Cream beans, I will save a lot of the information about progress, propagation, uses and history for that post. I touch on some of these topics in the video below.
As we continue to work around the farm, we get to see a lot of our fellow arboreal friends having birthdays, two, three, some of the oldest are over four years old now!
Here I will introduce you to one such tree:
I also show my thoughts and techniques for harvesting the green manure, using the machete and leaving pioneering woody shubs. Each of these topics could be touched on more, and may be later, but since I am still inexperienced they are all bundled together in this one video.
We strongly believe in what is called 'Stacking Functions', which is one of the Permaculture Principles. In fact, I have found it very useful in my life as well on on the homestead. I feel like steemit blogging is an application of stacking functions, because while we are documenting our progress we are also earning cryptocurrency and making new friends and networking.
Any thoughts, comments, tips or other suggestions you may have about video production, agroforestry, reforestation, permaculture, botany or ecology please do feel open to be frank with me in the comments!
Seems like you are PHD in farming :P
A great compliment! We have accumulated lots of anecdotal evidence and now are working on the official scientific experiment ;p
One day I shall be a Doctor of Agroforestry!
Cool, best of luck then ;)
Thank you very much!
I loved this post. I learned the term "Staking Functions" that is a principle that we adopt too, but I didn't know how to call it. And I didn't know that coffee plants once grew under the shade of Inga Edulis.
I agree on how Steemit can be complementary to homesteading: in fact it helps you keeping track of the developments. When I started a vegetable garden many told me to keep a diary: Steemit can be a very good substitute for that.
May the rewards for what you are doing bless your lives!
Yes! Journaling was always my weakest part! I took the pictures but then they were just kept on a dusty old harddrive - steemit brings it all together for me - plus I get to meet great friends like you!
Bendiciones
Right, it rewards journaling! :-)
Bendiciones a vosotros, queridos
😇😇😇
Bendicido con nuevos amigos.
Amici? My italian is terrible...in fact it may just be spanish with an italian accent....
Amici, right!
Talking about accents, what kind of american accent, is yours?
It reminded me of Bob Dylan's!
Wow! You have a great ear! Bob Dylan was from Minnesota, a near neighbor to Wisconsin, where I am from!
Generally this accent is called 'Midwestern' ;p
our coffee currently gets shaded beneath avocado tree, and one mango tree that doesnt fruit properly
Very nice! We have happy avocadoes and some very slow growing mangoes (we are too high [1810msnm] but it never stops us from trying)
How much coffee do you grow? They say 11 plants is enough for one family for all year ;p
somewhere nearing 50 plants. we harvest for our consumption and give the rest away as Christmas gifts. Honestly my business is more in the harvest of tourists. he he gringos are the new maiz
Very nice! We have similar business plans except the gringoes are much scarcer here, we are working on it though!
Do you descerezar? We dry it in the fruit for tremendous effect. Im working on an article about it.
nice vid...yeah be safe with that machete...looks well sharpened
What a lovely life to live and work with so much nature all around. And yes, I agree . Steemit blogging is a profitable way of documenting our progress
Thanks for reading Neha 😀
My pleasure 😊
Thats cool you are documenting your progress!!! I am really horrible at remembering to do things like document progress of projects.. you got my upvote and resteem
You make using that machete look so easy! I need one for my yard! I had never heard pf Ice Cream beans before!
Yes Florida can get quite dense foliage!
I have lots of practice now and only a few wounds from my lessons. Be deliberate and careful when learning to use one.
I can't wait to show you the fruit of the ice cream bean 😇 The biggest are flowering now!
Silly question. Do you use ice cream beans to flavor Ice Cream? Don't think I'll try the machete. I have enough wounds from the foliage itself.
They make a curved sickle that is much harder to hurt yourself with as long as you cut away from your body
The inner flesh of the fruit (surrounding the beans) is sweet and tastes like ice cream, although it is fruit. I bet it would make a good smootie, but I have never had it mixed with actual ice cream.
I love your questions! And its only silly because its a new exotic fruit, you've never seen it before!
Now I know about ice cream beans! The fruit sounds delicious! I do actually have a small curved sickle. Time to dig it out again, and chop down a bit of the wild area!
Maintenance keeps the plants, and the gardener, happy and healthy
You are right. I need to manage my time better. :-)
Good job! Thanks to @raserrano you have planted 0.13 tree to save Abongphen Highland Forest in Cameroon. Help me to plant 1,000,000 trees and share my Steem Power to the others. Selfvoting is prohibited, but that should be the reason to spread the world to protect our precious environment. Check out profile of our conservation association @kedjom-keku and the founder/coordinator @martin.mikes to get more information about our conservation program. My current SP is 14277.99. Help me to plant more trees with your delegated SP.
Thanks a lot,
your @treeplanter

Me encantó mirar los guanábanos, incluso el video luce muy bien. Me perdí el contenido, lamentablemente entiendo muy poco la conversación en inglés. Cariños.
