Cutting Down A Ten Story Palm Tree!!

Hey everyone, this magical African Paradise in the bush is where I am lucky enough to live. My landlord recently got the proverbial 'bee in his bonnet' to cut a few of the Palm Tree's around his house, sadly the Tree's render his house an ice-box in Winter so this needed to be done!

Can you spot that very brave man at the top of that ladder??

Watching these guys at work is gut wrenching to say the very least , I suffer from vertigo as well as acrophobia (extreme fear of heights) so just watching this is rather daunting yet exciting at the same time. This clearly is not their 'first rodeo' as they do this with total ease and professionalism.

Up the ladder they go chainsaw in the one hand and get to chopping the palm fronds (branches).

The reason these guys do not just cut the the bottom of the tree and let it fall in their 'chosen direction' is just simply too many things the tree can fall on and damage, the roof, walls, plants other trees etc. The only way to get this done safely is to get a guy right to the top on a really long ladder and 'snip snip' slowly and surely all the way down from the top in increments!

Here we have a newly chopped up White Stinkwood tree, sadly this tree also had to go as it was very messy, it has this horrible little bug that spits this nasty sticky resin all over everything and naturally the landlord did not enjoy his prized collectible cars getting 'defaced' nature style!

Once everything has been chopped into smaller pieces they are put into this wood chipper which further grinds it all up and spits it out the other side. This works rather well for my landlord as he owns a nursery on this property, which he will recycle and use for compost!
