Treasure stories.

in #treasure8 years ago

Treasure stories come in a variety of places. Some from an old relative, an old neighbor, a book, the Internet. The credibility of these stories are sketch at best. Most stories are rooted in some kind of truth. Wether a half truth or a legend carried down by word of mouth, changing at each telling. Tales of great riches laying just beyond our grasp inspire and entertain us. Very few of thes stories have turned into succesful finds. When reading or hearing these stories I like to ask myself three questions.

  1. Could the story really happen?
  2. How credible is the story teller , if it is a first hand account.
  3. Is there anyway of verifying some of the facts of the story.
Here in oklahoma we have many stories of outlaws and bandits. I recall a storie of a charecter named chief blackface. An outlaw who was half native and half african American. In my research I've never found such a person. That doesn't mean he didn't exist it just means there is no verifiable evidence. So when researching these stories remember to remain optimistic but also grounded in reality. Happy hunting.
