Wonders of the world "The Palace of Versailles"
Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO for over thirty years, the Palace of Versailles is one of the best known palaces worldwide, not only for its imposing architecture and its endless and well-tended gardens, but because it is an important part of the history of France.
During the visit to the Palace of Versailles it is possible to visit an infinite number of rooms with great artistic richness, among which it is worth highlighting the enormous chapel and the Grand Apartments of the King and Queen, which have a large number of decorative elements.
Also of special importance is the Gallery of Mirrors, an impressive gallery 73 meters long that has 375 mirrors. It is one of the most important rooms of the palace, since it was the place where in 1919 the First World War would end with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles.
The impressive gardens of Versailles have an extension of more than 800 hectares along which extend plants and all kinds of trees, as well as a large number of marble statues, ponds and fountains.
It is practically impossible to visit the whole of the gardens, but there are different ways to try it, for example renting a bicycle or an electric car, or with the little train that runs through the gardens.
Some of the most important points of the garden are the Gran Trianón, a small pink marble palace, or the Dominio de María Antonieta, a place where Louis XVI's wife enjoyed a simple and country life.
From April to October it is possible to attend the shows in which the fountains move their waters to the rhythm of the music. It is important to inform yourself beforehand about the schedules because they only take place for a few hours each day.
At present the Palace of Versailles is one of the most visited places in France. The visit to the Palace combines history and culture, besides being able to enjoy nature strolling through the gardens.
