Architectural reserve "Varosha"

in #travelp5 years ago (edited)

There was an epoch of rebirth in the Bulgarian history, in Bulgarian it is called Vzrazhdane. This is the period from the end of the 17th century to the end of 19. Although, Bulgarian historians still argue over time dates. This "era" was characterized by a surge in culture and a revolutionary spirit. One of the components of the Bulgarian Renaissance is architecture. Renaissance houses can be seen in every old Bulgarian city, but there are also “architectural reserves” in the country - reserves. These are cities and neighborhoods with "canned" architecture. There are very beautiful ones like Bozhentsi or Koprivshtitsa, and there are modest, but still interesting.

One of these reserves is Varosha quarter in the city of Lovech. I want to show the photos that I took at the beginning of March. By the way, that’s why they don’t have enough colors, but don’t judge it strictly - the quarter is very cozy and hospitable. We ate there incredibly tasty in a revival restaurant. My old digital dish soap is to blame.

Varosha

In 1968, the old part of Lovech on the right bank of the Osam River and the territory of the Stratesh Park were declared the Architectural and Historical Reserve Varosha. The covered bridge also entered it, which in itself is a unique structure. Represented. Now it is fully renovated.

This meant that the Renaissance quarter, built on the site of a medieval city, as well as the medieval fortress above it, are fully preserved and new construction in these territories should be carried out according to strict regulations in compliance with all Bulgarian revival traditions.

In the quarter of Varos there are 200 architectural, historical and cultural monuments. Their safety and support is handled by a special organization, the Economic Directorate. It is funded by the Ministerial Council and the community of Lovech.

The quarter is almost completely residential. Only some houses are museums. The Museum Vasil Levski is located in Varosha. This is a famous Bulgarian revolutionary, who here is called the Angel of Liberty.

Covered bridge

The only bridge in Bulgaria of this kind. Such bridges are still in three European cities. This bridge is the official symbol of Lovech.

Initially, the Covered Bridge was built in 1876 by the Bulgarian builder Nikola Fichev. It was an order of the Ottoman Empire. But in 1925 the bridge burned down. Because it was mostly wooden.

Therefore, in 1931, he was rebuilt by another architect, Stefan Olekov. And it was no longer wooden, but reinforced concrete. And it began to drive cars.

In 1982, the Covered Bridge was reconstructed, returning it to its original form. Hristo Zlatev was engaged in this. The bridge has become a completely pedestrian mall and tourist site. There were built shops and conducted heating type "warm floors".

Church "Assumption Bogorodichno"

Enoraisky temple "Assumption Bogorodichno" was built in 1834 and is a cultural monument. This temple is famous for the fact that it served as a revolutionary ally of Vasil Levski - pop Krastyu. He was suspected of treason and embezzlement of the community ticket office. There is still no consensus on what happened then and whether Pop Krystyu was guilty of Vasil Levski’s death. Some historians believe that Kraste himself was a victim of betrayal and that he was slandered. For the rest of his life, Kraste Nikiforov asked to investigate this case and remove the shame from his name or deservedly punish him.

Land Fortress

Lovech Fortress stands on a hill, which is called "Hisarya", which also means a fortress in Ottoman translation. According to archaeological data, this fortress dates from the 9th to the 10th century, and was originally built in the First Bulgarian Kingdom. In the 60s of the 20th century, active excavations were carried out here, and then restoration work was done. From the original fortress almost nothing left. All that we see is a reconstruction.

And these are the caves around Lovech - they can be seen from the fortress. Not far from Lovech there is Devetashka Cave, in which they shot the film "The Expendables".

Thank you for your time and attention.
