East Coast Walking Day 2 Scarborough
Day 2 of our walking holiday with a visit to Scarborough. We usually park up on the south side of Scarborough. Further south than the grand hotel . We either walk down via the Italian garden or via the headland path. Today was the headland path.
Walking down you come across this huge half circle area. You can see how big it is by the two people walking down there. Not really sure what it's for apart from protecting the headland from erosion.
Erosion is a major problem on the east coast especially at Scarborough due to the make up of the land.
Here you can see where there was a land slip last year and the beach huts have collapsed . These will not be repaired and will probably eventually be demolished. Sad to see the destruction of a lot of Victorian landmarks.
Up on the hillside in the distance you can see the large white building and the cranes working to shore up the hillside with huge rock bolts and mesh to hold everything together. this work has been going on for two years so far.
Here you can see where the council has actually invested in the town by demolishing the old derelict nightclub that has blighted the sea front for a long time.
