Our body clock, called the circadian rhythm, is like an internal 24-hour timer. It lives deep in the brain in a tiny area which is known as suprachiasmatic nucleus in scientific language. This SCN reads light through our eyes and sets the rhythm for sleep, wakefulness, hunger, and even temperature.

Generally it hits our eyes in the morning and sends signals to wake up. It tells the brain to release chemicals like cortisol and stops producing melatonin, the “sleep hormone.” Cortisol raises alertness and energy, helping you get out of bed. As night falls and light fades, the SCN signals to a specific gland to make melatonin, making you feel sleepy.

But this clock can schedules daily brain tasks and do things for you during certain hours, like memory consolidation during sleep. So if you make it a regular habits going to bed and waking up at the same time, keep your clock steady.

Of course it changes when you travel, work in shifts, or stay up late, and make waking up harder until it resets. But with a little practice you can do it.

In short, your brain’s clock reads light, and times your sleep and alertness so you can wake up when needed. Small daily routines help it do the job smoothly.

Try it, I have done it successfully during my traveling days when I woke up as and when I wanted to setting my body alarm.

I use a small lamp with timer when I am in different places. It helps me wake up early more easily.
