VISITING MARLBOROUGH FORT [My Picture Day Submission]
You want to travel and do not know where to go?
If you are a fan of historical sights, then visiting Marlborough Fort is one of the right choices. Visiting Marlborough Fort is also a clevel option because this historical site located in near at least 2 other beautiful places in Bengkulu Island: Tapak Paderi Beach and Kampong China.
Bengkulu is a Province in Indonesia. In addition to the flowers Rafflesia and coffees, the province on the island of Sumatra is also known for a variety of tourist attractions which are very interesting and historic.
The attractions places include: Panjang Beach, Paderi Beach, Bung Karno House (The First President of the Republic of Indonesia) while in exile, Rumah Fatmawati (Bung Karno's Wife), and Fort Marlborough...
For this opportunity, I will tell you about this historic Fort, which I visited on July 14, 2018:
Located in Bengkulu, on the shores of Tapak Paderi Beach, the Marlborough Fort is an ancient building of British colonial heritage.
According to a guide who guides us, this Fortress has its back to the Indian Ocean and was established on an artificial hill overlooking the city of Bengkulu.
Fort Marlborough located in the city of Bengkulu, Bengkulu Province is the largest bastion of Asian relics of the British Government at the time of colonization in the 18th century. The fort was originally functioning as a defense. But over time, this building then changed the function into a trading center.
Fort Marlborough has a very strong appeal because the design is still original 17th-century design, with no significant renovation.
According to some sources, the Fort was founded by the East India Company (EIC) between 1714-1719 under the leadership of the governor Joseph Callet. The fort was built as a British fortress.
It can be said, this fortress is the strongest stronghold of England in the East after the fortress of St. George in Madras, India. The fort is built on a hill overlooking the city of Bengkulu, and backs the Indian Ocean.
The full address of this Fort is:
Jalan Benteng, Kebun Keling, Tlk. Segara, Bengkulu City, Bengkulu 38119.
I visited this antique, grand, and beautiful fort when I attended the Bengkulu National Literary Festival, in 13 - 15 July 2018.
Enjoyyy...!!!
Best Regards
ZR

Cool Fact:
The 2000 Enggano earthquake, which registered 7.9 on the moment magnitude scale, and of 2007, with its 3.5-meter tsunami, had no effect on the strongly built fort.

Fort Marlborough
Fort Marlborough (Indonesian Benteng Marlborough, also known as Malabero) is an English fort located in Bengkulu City, Sumatra. It was built between 1713-1719 by the East India Company under the leadership of Governor Joseph Collett as a defensive fort for the British East India Company's Residency there. It was one of the strongest British forts in the eastern region, second only to Fort St. George in Madras, India.
