A weekend at Caloundra, Queensland - Australia

in #travelfeed4 years ago

How's it going Travelfeeders & Steemers?

So we just spent the last weekend up at Caloundra, Sunshine Coast in Queensland Australia.

Caloundra is a quiet beach town about an hour drive from Brisbane city. So if you're looking for a huge Saturday night out partying Caloundra is definitely not the place to go haha

None the less it is the perfect place to just relax and take in the beautiful views, play in the waves and reflect on life after the rough past couple of weeks we have had.

We booked a motel room with some emirates points that were about to expire so the motel only cost us $30 for the night which was great!

We checked in then went straight to the water front at Happy Valley.

We found this staircase which led right into the ocean so it was the perfect spot to sit and enjoy the ocean.

The island on the other side of the water is Bribie Island.

The morning started off overcast but as the day went on it cleared up to become a beautiful day. So we went for a walk along the water all the way to Kings Beach.

The scenery is perfect along the walk.

The walkway along the shore.

Kings beach has some fun small breaks to surf on. Perfect for learning.

As we were strolling along the beach I noticed a dead cane toad on the beach WTF!!

Iconic Queensland photo right here 😊

Now cane toads are a huge pest in Queensland. They were introduced into Australia to help protect our sugar cane industry by eating all the insects. But they ended up breeding out of control and they are now everywhere! The worst part is the have a poisonous glands on their neck so any animal that tries to eat them get very sick and even die.

I wonder why this cane toad made it all the way to the waters edge. It must have been thirsty.

None the less it made for a great iconic Queensland photo, him lying there with a blue bottle jelly fish next to him.

Blue bottle jelly fish are stingy little bastards they have long thin tentacles. Which wrap around your body if you are swimming near them, and sting the hell out of you.

So what an iconic Queensland duo!

Now we were getting a bit thirsty, so in tradition with our holidays we always have a Bloody Mary to kick off the time off.

My favourite holiday cocktail!

Then it was time to find some food.

There are a few pelicans hanging around the waters edge where people eat, in hope of a free feed.

We found this nice fish and chip shop which had giant oysters for only $3!! I had to do it and I wasn't disappointed 😊

We grabbed some beers and headed to our favourite staircase to watch the tide go out.

Cheers

Then found some rock pools to explore. It seemed that some bin chickens also had the same idea.

Bin chicken

Now bin chickens are also known as Ibis. Are normally found in the city digging through bins, or at dumps scavenging for food or anywhere we have taken their natural habitat from them.

I have to admit it was pretty strange to see a bin chicken on the beach. But after seeing the cane toad hey everything goes on the Sunshine Coast!!

Bin chicken at the beach

This guy was searching under the rocks for crabs. But with no luck as they would get deep under the rocks with the quickness as the bin chicken stuck his long beek searching for them.

Crab life

As the sun was going down and the sunburn started to set in, we headed back to our motel to freshen up and see what the Caloundra night life is all about on a Saturday night.

We quickly learnt nothing was going on at all. So we had some dinner at a Mexican restaurant then called it a night.

The next morning they had blocked off the main street in Caloundra, and gypsys from far and wide have come together to sell their treasures and magical ointments to the tourists and retirees of Caloundra. This happens every Sunday apparently.

Gypsys

Gypsys everywhere

It was a beautiful day with blue sky's so we spent the day relaxing on the beach and playing in the waves.

Happy Valley Caloundra

It sure was an awesome little beach getaway, and only an hour drive from home we will definitely be spending more time up there this summer.

As always thanks for stopping by and happy travels 😊

PS. This is my first post on travelfeed.io so let's see how it all goes 😊

Thanks for sharing life on the beach in Australia.

Unusual finding a dead toad along the way, definitely a Savannah needed to wash that memory away.

Haha yeah it was very unusual to find a toad on the beach and a savannah always helps 😊
