Paris Winter Free Things to Do

Since December 5, France has stopped most subways, trains, and trams because of a nationwide strike that opposes the Macron government's pension reform plan. The Macron government's position is to reinforce 42 complex and inefficient retirement pension systems into one, increasing labor market flexibility. On the other hand, French citizens are strongly opposed to the reorganization of Golza's pension, which means that as the age of severance payments gets older and more work is done, the pension mistake is reduced.

School teachers also joined the strike, and some of the schools were partly closed, with some days being temporarily closed, and some days without morning meals or after school activities. This schedule was also decided on the morning of school and there was considerable confusion. Even public transportation was paralyzed, so normal life was impossible.

Even in the case of buses, even if the buses do not have regular intervals, they have to wait a long time. Traffic jams have also become so severe that the fatigue of citizens is increasing these days.

Line 6, which is used to commute, has been suspended. So at this point, we didn't send our children to school and tour the city of Paris. Luckily, line 1 runs through the sights, and there is George V station on line 1 on the Champs-Elysées street near the house.

Gallery Lafayette

Galeries Lafayette walked down either Concorde or Tuileries on line 1. The distance to Lafayette is quite far, but it was enough to walk slowly, like walking with children. I walked around the historic French architecture, such as the Madeleine or the Opera Garnier, and it was fun to see Christmas decorations all over the alleys.

The Galeries Lafayette rooftop has an ice rink. Admission and skate rental are both free.

There was a time limit of 20 minutes per person, but I was lucky enough to ride another hour. For 40 minutes, I was able to skate without a glimpse of the beautiful sunset over Paris. A jazz-like carol song that sounds calmly adds to the romantic Christmas atmosphere.

The rooftops of the Galeries Lafayette and the Francois department store next door are crowded with tourists because they are famous for stopping by after shopping.

The sky full of clouds and the view were amazingly beautiful, so I stayed there for a while.

Galeries Lafayette department store is also famous for its Christmas decorations. Each year, new themes, dolls, and props for each brand are displayed on the show window to match the music. After looking through all the show windows, it's so complete that it feels like watching a puppet show.

The Christmas decorations that are decorated in every corner of the room become snowy, but the best part is a huge tree hanging from the ceiling. It was the same last year, but every time I see that splendor, my mouth is pounding. This year's theme is Bee.

Barbie dollhouse is installed on the 5th floor of Gallery Lafayette until the end of the year in a pop-up store. If you have children who like Barbie, it's worth visiting.

Paris City Hall

Hotel de ville de paris

Paris City Hall, located near the Marais district, can also be reached by line 1. Last Christmas we went to the City Hall because we could ride horses for free and ride a merry-go-round in front of the building. The magnificent City Hall building, which is enormous in size, even looks great with Christmas decorations.

This year, the children met Grandpa Santa. It was a Christmas season because of my grandfather who asked me about the gifts I wanted to have and gave them a virtue.

It was cold as I ate triangular gimbap from my house as a snack and had a banquet that was sold in the Christmas market.

There was a free curling experience, so the kids first curled. Event organizers held the children and kindly explained the curling rules. At first, he threw the stone freely, and later came out quite a form. The children who took the senses attended the event twice, whether it was fun.

Le Marché de Noël du Jardin des Tuileries

Although the Christmas market is in many parts of Paris, the Tuileries Garden Market is quite large. Although there are many tourists, it is disadvantageous to be hit by people, but it was unusually more frequent this winter because it is possible to go on line 1 at once. Moreover, there was a great opportunity to see the French traditional puppet show called Guignol for free. Children often had the opportunity to learn about field trips at school, but this was our first time.

It's a story about a monster taking a gift, a grandfather Santa, a neighbor, and a dog.

It was an audience-centered puppet show that kept asking and talking to children. During the 30-minute show, the children were super-focused and fun, watching the puppet show, and we were really heady as we listened to the high speed conversation.

After seeing Guillaume, we went to the Christmas Market, took a bite of Churos, and went to see the market, and played in the Tuileries Garden.

Other free events

In some malls, events like making Christmas ornaments, face painting and caricatures were all free.

In another department store, students from a world-renowned cooking school called Le Cordon Bleu offered a free atelier to decorate Christmas chocolates with their children.

Likewise, there are many free events for children in Paris. With a little interest, you can easily find something to spend without spending money.

I usually refer to a site called "Sortir à Paris", which is easy to see in English.

We hope that children will have a pleasant and happy memory of their lives in Paris.

Although it is unfortunate that we can't travel freely because of the strike, we are holding children's hands and walking and walking around every corner of the city, relying on Google Maps and two feet, and enjoying the city of infinite charm.

Even if this discomfort is thought to be a precious memory that I will leave later in the day, even though I complain about it, I quickly enter.

The life of Paris is really short.
