Hey Steemers! Who likes the sun, sea, getting pampered and poolside cocktails? I know I do, so I was super stoked when my bestie whisked me up to the Whitsundays for a birthday trip!

Daydream Island

Is one of the seven Molle Islands, a sub group of the cluster of Islands making up the beautiful Whitsundays.

At the moment Daydream Island is currently undergoing a refurbishment due to damage caused by Cyclone Debbie. The redevelopment has been a $100million, 18 month long project, so I for one, am pretty excited to see what the new and improved resort has to offer! The soft reopening will be on 29th of September, 2018 with all the resort facilities fully operational by 1st of November.

The living reef is making a bigger and better come back and will be the new home to more fish and coral than ever before. Hopefully it still features the mini version of the Great Barrier Reef's Heart Reef.

Use of all non motorised water equipment (snorkels, flippers, paddle boards, kayaks etc) and island facilities (mini golf, beach cinema, pools, tennis courts etc) was included in our tariff and I would assume it would be the same, this time around.

The resort offers daily activities, excercise classes etc so be sure to check out their weekly newsletter with the daily timetables. Of course if you don't want to adhere to any kind of schedule (like us!) you can just chill pool/beach side... and if you need something more to help you relax and unwind....

We spent alot of time and money here hahaha! Got massages, body wraps, facials, mani/pedis ๐Ÿ’… and it was pure bliss!

The three pools and swim up bar are all getting a facelift aswell as expanding the food options available across the island.

At only 1km long and 400m across at its widest point, it's easy to get around. If this seems too much for you... don't worry, there are golf buggy shuttles which can take you some of the way! There is a lovely rainforest walk through the centre and you will find lots of Australian wildlife getting around the island.

If you're lucky you might even spot the beautiful mermaids that are known to frolick around the area ๐Ÿ˜‰

The restaurants sold picnic boxes, you can take these away and enjoy them around the Island. My favourite places were watching the sunset at Lovers Cove

And sprawled out on the lawn watching the wallabies graze

Since Daydream Island is at such a prime location in the Whitsundays, alot of the other islands are only a short boat ride away! You should definitely take advantage of this and take a day trip. We did a sailing/snorkelling trip to.....

Whitehaven Beach

Our day starts out with a boat transfer to Airlie Beach, which takes approximately 30mins. From here we board a giant purple catamaran and set sail.

A light breakfast, water, juice, soft drink, tea and coffee are served on our way to a first stop.. a hidden away snorkel spot. Prime stinger season has just begun and the boat crew have wetsuits readily available. I am one of the few who take their chances all for the sake of gaining a tan!

After a nice and stinger free snorkel, it's time to get back on board and head to Whitehaven. Our boat crew timed our arrival perfectly! The morning boats had just left and we will have a good hour or so until the afternoon boats start arriving. That means we get to enjoy most of this 7km stretch of the whitest sand to ourselves!

While we were all enjoying the beach, the boat crew were cooking up our BBQ lunch. Beers and wines are now brought out, so enjoy lunch and some drinks with Whitehaven as our backdrop.

The wind has died off now so it's a slow, leisurely sail back to the mainland. We sit back enjoying the wines, cheese and fruit platters whilst still working on our tans.

Since our approach back is so slow we get dropped off by lifeboat instead of having to transfer all the way back from Airlie Beach.

I have been three day and two by sailing boat approaching Luncheon bay, Hook Island, Whitehaven beach, (night anchor dropped) South Mackerel Bay Storehaven (night anchor dropped)amd then way back to the mainland. For me one of the best I have visited in the whole Australia

That would of been a great sailing trip! Up there is such a beautiful part of Australia!

Day dream island sounds like a nice relaxing holiday destination. Whitehaven is one of my favourite beaches ever! Great post ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿบ

It sure was! I totally undestand why it's one of your favourites!

Thank you:)

hello @terrybogan, I live in the whitsundays and the clean up has been long and arduous. I work on Hamilton Island and live in Airlie beach. It was interesting to read your post. I take it your photos are pre-cyclone Debbie as I have heard nothing in the area about the reopening of daydream at this stage. It was an interesting post. I think however you will find that the island will look nothing like this when it re opens, as it has sustained massive damage and is undergoing a full makeover! I will look forward to a visit there as soon as it opens. Nice to see you promoting the whitsundays.
