The Italian Romance pt.1 (St. Regis Rome)
Italy has a special place in our hearts, especially in our thighs and tummy from presenting pizza and pasta to the world. All too familiar with the Italian language learned from restaurant menus, we wanted to venture out to Italy to explore what this cuisine loving country beholds.
Whenever we start and end our travels, we do it with a punch by checking in at 5-star hotel. This round we selected the St. Regis Rome. Being one of the world's historic hotels, the St. Regis was built in 1894 under its previous name Le Grand Hotel and recently celebrated its 125th year. Being a central for cultural elites, diplomats and high society party goers, the St. Regis Rome played an integral role for over a century.
Just like those rotating doors in black and white movies, where beautiful women walked through those glass doors in department stores, the St. Regis' entrance is special in bringing up nostalgic romantic moments to any trying to enter its compounds. Take each steps up those marble stairs and lightly push into a whirlwind of flower scented lobby, where the magnificent chandelier above greets you.
A grand entrance, where a light blue chandelier hangs on a painted ceiling. Unlike any chandelier ever seen, each arm is separately created with detailed glass pieces with hints of gold and blue decorating the hands that hold up the lights. The lobby is separated in 4 halls, each with its own theme encapsulating by its detailed designs dripping on all ends.
Across from the lobby, is a smaller hall where the ceiling is painted gold. This hall is fabulously ostentatious as the expensive looking crystal chandelier hangs above a flower centerpiece large enough in size to be an elevator. The white orchids riding up the metallic bars create a forest in the middle of the hall. Even the floors are created from tile pieces making small circular whirls.
In St.Regis' main ballroom, the most extravaganza of a place opens up before your eyes. Like any other room, the chandelier hangs high up above the floor as the lights glisten on the marble tiles below. The ceiling is what captivates this room as paintings on the ceiling meticulously painted to each detail reminds you of the ballroom ceiling from beauty and the beast. The red velvet colored marble columns raise this majestic ceiling ready to host a dinner for important guests of the hotel.
This whole lobby already shook us to rethink on the definition of luxury, but to our surprise this extravaganza didn't end here. The rooms were a force to be reckoned with as well.
The Rooms
Enter into St.Regis' Deluxe room, where each furniture piece is an antique, and wall paintings look like the real deal. The mahogany furniture stands out in this ivory colored entrance awaiting for your keys and purse to be placed on top.
This is the living room, period. No words to describe the immaculate taste in designing this perfect little room ready to host any guest. I generally am not a fan of carpets, especially these busy ones with patterns all over, but this combination of a slick wall, and a royal purple carpet, ready does create a room to standout. Do not leap for joy as I did, because the bedroom is marvelous.
Imagine sleeping under this hand painted wall of the city outside as if your window was above your head. With hanging curtains neatly arranged across the ceiling matching with the suede chaise on the right.
The bathroom, I kid you not, is marbled from top to bottom in PINK marble. My fantasy bathroom right here as two huge mirrors are placed across one another, and 2 huge basins.
Our stay here was absolutely fantastic. Not only were the rooms and the design of the place make you feel like a rich aristocrat, but we had our own butler who literally helped you with anything. Definitely will go back to the St.Regis again!
