Berlin: Nikolaivirtel quarter
Today we are in Nikolayviertel - the quarter of Nicholas, named, apparently, in honor of the church here named after this saint.
We walk along the quiet streets of this quarter. From everywhere you can see the spiers of the church of St. Nicholas.
Historically it was a handicraft / trading quarter.
And now there are a lot of shops and shops with souvenirs.
The whole area was bombed during the Second World War and was restored only by 1987.
We approached the church.
Next to it is a statue of a bear - a symbol of the city. I do not exclude that the Berlin bear went from the Germans of the Albert Bear family who drove the Slavs from these good places on the river Spree ...
Nearby a shop with souvenirs souvenirs, various.
And here is the church of St. Nicholas. This is the oldest city church.
In front of the entrance is a commemorative bronze plate.
The temple is named in honor of Nicholas the Wonderworker - the patron saint of merchants, sailors and children.
There paid entrance))
The church is not a parish church. Now it is a branch of the Berlin Museum and a venue for various concerts.
Very beautiful, unusual color vaults.
After the war, only the walls remained from the church.
The interior is recreated again ..
Entrance to the museum's storerooms with a precious ceiling.
And this is some kind of secret entry. Closed and sealed.
Farewell to the hall, known throughout Germany for its acoustics, we leave in bright sunny weather.
Beauty after all? 13th century ...
To the right of the church there is an architectural monument - the historic town house "Garlic House".
Who there just did not live ... Now here is a museum.
We go further through the cozy public garden to the embankment of the Spree.
On the shore there is a bronze sculpture of St. George the Victorious, defeating the dragon.
By the way, according to legend, this serpent was killed by George in Beirut, when he wanted to devour a daughter of one of the local kings.
We went along the embankment. On the horizon stands the Berlin Cathedral.
And the banks are guarded by arrogant and well-fed Lions ...
The building with golden balconies and columns belonged to the wealthy Jew Veitel Ephraim, who lent not much - King Frederick himself to the second ..
Well, from the rent of apartments a cunning comrade received money.
Now the palace of Efraim is a museum where exhibitions devoted to the history of culture and art of Berlin are held.
We leave for the quarter, we pass along the bridge with beautiful forging, we go past the old building of the royal stables, and now the Academy of Music,
and find ourselves at the first Neo-Gothic church, built in Berlin - the Temple of Friedrich du Verder.
Currently, the building is a museum, the main exhibition of which is dedicated to Karl Friedrich Schinkel - German architect, whose works are filled with Berlin.
Unfortunately, we were not able to get to it,
We went along the most beautiful Palace Bridge to look at the Berlin Cathedral.
Here it is!
And what he is closer and inside is another, my dear, story))
