I visited Venice several times, but the festival only once in 2017. It's nice to be around there, but personaly I couldn't get an invitation to any of the thematic parties. An alternative to the accommodation in the city (where you get over expensive rooms, and not the best quality) is Mestre, which is very well connected by train.
