Here is a great article highlighting this very contentious foody debate. I myself live in port klang and have heard from many aunties and uncles how this supposedly Singaporean dish was a staple food item in their homes well before that lady claimed to be the first to dump cili sos on her stir fried crabs.

It's more of a matter of marketing which Singapore thrives on while Malaysia is quite inept at selling it's diversity to the world for a myriad of deeply seeded reasons.

Facts are even Singapore was still Malaysia when Singapore claims this creation was conceived on its tiny little island. I find it impossible to believe vinegar chili sugar and tomatoes cooked with crabs hasn't existed for hundreds if not thousands of years and as the article points out is spaghetti Italian?
